One that starts with starter fluid needs to have carburetor cleaned out. Other one needs to have ignition circuit repair - possible bad coil.

My craftsman tractor will not run. seems like it is not getting any gas

you can test this real easy by squirting starter fluid in the intake and trying to start. If it starts and stays running, good-you may or may not have to keep using starter fluid. You might try new spark plug.
If starter fluid does not work, then you have a problem with spark plug, spark plug lead from the coil or a bad coil.

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run

Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.

if it doesn't fire with starting fluid then there is a problem with spark unplug the connector at the engine and try starting fluid again if it fires with the small connector unplugged the it could be a safety switch if no then pull the cover off the top of the engine and check the coil

The starter gears engage the bottom of the flywheel when starting the mower with the electric start if you can see that some of the teeth on the flywheel are stripped , you definitely need a new flywheel, parts diagram shows that it has a 'plastic ring' gear on the flywheel and doesn't show that the part is available seperate. Below is a picture of the assembly. About the running condition of the mower, I would start by removing the carburetor and cleaning it, get a common twist tie and remove the outer paper so you have a bare wire, use that wire to clean out the small hole in 'brass bowl nut' located on the bottom of the carburetor, then dry out with compressed air. The diagram below also shows the carburetor.

Hi. Replace the air filter. Then use some starter fluid and an assistant. Spray some starter fluid into the air intake as you start it up and keep spraying so that it runs on the starter fluid for a few seconds until it really takes off. J.

If this does not do it then you will have to have the carburetor rebuilt as it has hardened gunk in it.

! have a Troy built mower with a Honda engine, it quit running and will not start. I changed the spark plug, it ran for about one hour. Now the mower will not start.

Hello. If the gas has been sitting all winter, remove it with a siphoning bulb and put in brand new gas, not even gas that you have been storing all winter. Also, change your air filter. Finally get a can of starter fluid and a helper. While one person squirts a bit of starter fluid into the air intake [near the air filter] the other person starts it and use more squirts of starter fluid to keep it running. Joe
