I assembled a new computer and bought a new LCD screen (Samsung SyncMaster 923NW. WHen I turn the PC on, there is nothing on the screen.
What I tried doing: 1. Check that all cables (electrical and VGA) are well connected. 2. Use another VGA cable. 3. Connect another monitor to the PC. 4. Connect my new monitor to an old PC (VGA port on the motherboard). 5. Connect my new monitor to an old PC (VGA port on the GeForce 8500GT video card).
None of these helped. Even more weird, I tried my old monitor, which I use with a DVI cable, on my old computer through the VGA cable and it didn't work. After that, it refused to work even through the DVI cable! SOlved that by a simple restart, so the DVI works, but I have no DVI port on my new PC or monitor.
I should add that I bought the old PC and the new one from the same company and they used the same motherboard (Gigabyte GA M61PME-S2P). So I guess my old PC has the same problem with the VGA, I was just lucky also having DVI available.
Finally, the new monitor does not display anything when I press any of its buttons. It reacts strictly to the power button, which keeps blinking its little blue power light when it's on. The only time anything else is displayed on it is when I disconnect the VGA cable from it - it then shows "Check signal cable".
Thanks, Michael. As I wrote in the message, I hooked up another monitor (my old one) to the new PC, as well as the new monitor to the old PC, and nothing changed. Even my old PC and old monitor, which work nicely together through the DVI cable, refuse to cooperate when hooked over a DVA cable and I had to restart to make them talk to each other over the DVI again.
Any other ideas? Thanks, Michael. As I wrote in the message, I hooked up another monitor (my old one) to the new PC, as well as the new monitor to the old PC, and nothing changed. If you cant get into the setup menu then I would think the monitor is defective, you did not state if you hooked up the monitor to a computer that has a vga port that works.

Sounds like system software needs to be replaced... re-installed. It probably got corrupted somehow since it is not rebooting properly. Use the original discs that came with the computer. Thnx
on ooptions screen, click box that says only show settings the monitor can handle. Then try changing the horizonal and vertical settings on monitor to match it up with your settings.
On your windows main screen, right click, then properties, then settings, check all the settings
