Seems like the Main power board is short circuit. And the cause was not the fuse, it's the unit, and maybe the power transistor, my suggestion is, take it to the expert, Service Center maybe or else to solve the problems.
It sounds like the laptop has had some sort of thermal problem. Do you use it in a dusty/dirty environment? Did the laptop blower fan seem louder than it normaly was in the past? Any number of things (including age) could cause a laptop's fan to stop/work ineffectually and cause it to overheat.
Your power adapter my be loose on the motherboard which would require soldering it back on.
To confirm if this is your problem plug your laptop in and press the cord in and press the power button continuously if it powers on thats your problem.
When pressing the cord in it may take a couple of different angles before you find the right one so press it in if that don't work press it in and lean on the left, then to the right, up, down etc.
I am experiencing this problem right now I have clamped my cord for a temporary fix.
Sounds like the motherboard may have gone bad on you.
If your ac adaptor has a light on it, make sure it still has the light still illuminates when you plug it into a wall outlet. If it doesn't light up then it could be the adaptor but since you tried both just the battery and just the ac adaptor that would tell me the motherboard is bad.
The only other option would be to resolder the dc jack on the motherboard back in place. It could be that the solder joints underneath the dc jack have cracks in them.
Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
