Question about Dell 540 Photo Thermal Printer

1 Answer

White line across photo

Hi - off warranty of course, has printed around 60 prints in two years, now leaving a very thin white line lengthwise about 35 mm from righthand border (or top of print). Seems like I'd have to take it apart...???

Yellow light keeps flashing underneath triangle- Error code 6480. Please advise what this means? many thanks

There is a thin (1/4"wide) plastic strip running across the width in front of and below the drive belt. This is part of the optical encoder that tells the print-head where it is. If you look closely, there are fine black vertical lines on this strip. If the strip gets a piece of crud on it, you get an error during the start-up sequence. Gently clean this strip with a damp lint-free tissue. This also will fix a gap in the printing running lengthwise (not across the page like a clogged head).

I have canon mp145 printer. when it starts to print it gives the service error 5100 message

Tried greasing (actually WD40) per linzi's reply, but it did not help. In the process, I think the solution presented itself. This evening I bought a new HP Photosmart C4780 printer. I am trying to print photos now and the photos are being printed with small vertical lines across the whole photo. How do I get rid of them?

> I bought a new printer

Take it back, and get one that does work correctly.

> VERTICAL lines ACROSS the whole photo

Hold the paper in "portrait" mode, not "landscape" mode.
Are the lines HORIZONTALLY-ACROSS the paper,
or VERTICALLY-DOWN the paper?

If those lines are WHITE and HORIZONTAL,
then some of the many ink-jets inside the print-head are *CLOGGED*.
Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog it.
Or, exercise the WARRANTY, and get it replaced.

Prints have a thin white line across all the images printed. Everything else works and prints are ok outside of the thin white line running horizontal across the 5x7 prints.

  • Thermal head — generates heat; prints on paper
  • Platen — a rubber roller that feeds paper
  • Spring — applies pressure to the thermal head, causing it to contact the thermo-sensitive paper
  • Controller boards — for controlling the mechanism
I think that you may need to replace your thermal head, A line means there is a place that the head can not head or it cannot recieve data

White bands across printouts

Either one of the print heads are bad or a cartridge. This is what causes that problem. I know it is a hassle but I would take it back. If try and fix it you could void the warranty.
