1. Press Open/Close to open the drawer and insert CD
2. Press Play/Pause and wait over 30 seconds or more for the CD to start playing.
3. Use only original CD, not copies.

This is the case in most CD Players. . .
when you close the lid, it will try to read the CD.
If it recognizes and reads the cd, the cd will spin-up.
If not, it would say no disc.
try to clean the cd-player's lens by using a commercially available lens cleaner. if it still persists, it need a new optical mechanism.
