Question about Dewalt Air Tools & Compressors

Open Question

I purchased a kit from professor foam on ebay and installed it. The nail gun is still shooting air out of the tip where the nails come out. Dewalt D5188 type 1

I did find one shredded o-ring when I took the gun apart. With the kit I got it doesnt seem the the gun is getting a good seal around the bulkhead /cylinder spacer. I have a type 1 dewalt D51844. The plastic bag the kit came in does have my model number on it. Only one of the only rings that go under (inside) the bulkhead is the clearer color. Both of the ones I removed were clearer. Also I seem to have one o ring left over. Maybe that is because one of the other models or types takes an extra one ring. Please advise. The only other option I can think of is to pull the trigger out and check those o rings. Im just not finding info online that would indicate those o rings as the problem I am having. The gun does shoot nails but they only drive in half way 5do to the loss of air out of the nose of the gun.

SOURCE: Dewalt Nail Gun D51844. Same problem as other guy

Dewalt uses about 4 or 5 orings within the gun made of semi clear urethane that fail (turn gummy and breake apart). Two are under the bulkhead and at least two in the trigger valve. To remove the bulkhead pull up on the white housing. With housing and cylinder assembly out, push down on the black retainer at the very bottom and remove the oring(take a picture of the assembly after each stage so that you can re-assemble the spring and checkvalve correctly). You will find two large orings under the bulkhead against the cylinder that need to be replaced (also the orings in the trigger, or replace the trigger valve ).

I have a d51822 framing nailer that will shoot a nail but then not recoil to shoot the next nail, if you wait 10-20 seconds the gun will release air at the top of the gun and recoil

Most likely there is a problem with swollen orings between the cylinder and cylinder spacer (white plastic piece between cylinder and body ). Order the oring kit because nost likely when you take the gun apart the orings will fall apart. Dewalt used vinyl orings instead of viton on critical areas of the cylinder and these vinyl orings failed.

After shooting a nail, it fires out two more nails. It's a Dewalt d51822.

There is a replacement trigger valve available from Dewalt. The new part number is 5140095-73 (the old part number was 641006-00 ). I am not sure however if the new part is just a natural upgrade or if it was changed to address an issue. I have seen these guns double fire and fire once when air is connected. I would change trigger valve and four orings that make contact with the bulkhead (part # 395215-00). These orings are in the repair kit available from Dewalt (kit does not include the trigger valve). Use caution for now, do not load nails until you are ready to nail; then pull out nails from rails when done . Good luck

I only shoot one nail and the rest is air. i need to push up the magazine to advance another one. This is my first finish nailer, is there something i'm doing wrong or is it the gun. I just purchased this...

Possibly, I would make sure that you are using the right guage nails first with the proper collation. You can go to Dewaltservicenet.com and download a breakdown for the tool and also a users manual.

Nail Gun support

Yes, because there is less risk of splitting the wood grain when using a nail gun than when using a hammer, nail guns are especially useful in delicate projects such as the application of indoor trimming. A nail gun sets the nail in one motion, reducing the chance of slips and bumps that can ruin delicate woods. Most models also include a rubber safety nose to protect the wood from friction.
