It sounds like a Bios or Hard Drive password has been set. This does not happen by accident, start asking everybody with access to the computer.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Desktop Error Message

Probably this is a spyware, use a good anti spyware or do the following:

Run Process Explorer (right click on task bar>task manager>Processes) and Kill the Following Processes:
wscript.exe
dxdlg.exe (kill this one first)

Run Autoruns and under logon tab, remove
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\boot.vbs
Search for entries named wproxp and remove it

Remove the following files from your PC:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxdlg.exe
wproxp.exe (Most probably in your system32 or windows folder)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\boot.vbs

SOURCE: Takes a long time after Turn Off Computer button is pressed

there may be many programs running at the background. Hence you can block them from the start up. The following is the steps to make that happen-
1) clik on 'start" on the task bar
2) click on the "run" from the menu
3) write the word "misconfig" (without quotes) then click on Ok
4) click on the "start up" tab from the dialog box
5) then uncheck the services or programs that you think not necessary to run at start up

I do hope you find it important

I have a gateway sx2110g need to change bios to legacy i am running windows xp i am trying to install windows 8

STOP!!!
before you update, check what devices need drivers and if you still can get drivers for these devices, like sound card, video card, but also when you have a webcam and wireless keyboard and mouse.
Since Window's 7 you need Microsoft certified drivers and your old XP drivers can't be used anymore.
Feel free to setup windows 8.1, but make sure you have a image for your old configuration, so you always can go back when you can't get enough drivers to let the computer run like you used to.

What can i do to get to the recovery screen on my gateway desktop, its model is SX2110G-UW24?

I pulled this from the Gateway manual for your machine. It is a generic guide. If this doesn't work, you may not have a recovery partition on your hard drive and should have made recovery disks when originally getting the unit. Good Luck!

From the Gateway Manual......

Recovering from the hard drive during startup:
To reinstall Windows and all pre-installed software and drivers:
1. Turn on your computer, then press Alt+F10 during startup. Gateway
Recovery Management opens.
2. Click on Restore system from factory default.
Caution: Continuing the process will erase all files on your hard
drive.
3. Click on Next. Your hard drive's original, factory-loaded contents are
recovered. This process will take several minutes.

This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives or to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device. To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer."

There are a lot of ways on how you can optimize a computer. You can upgrade the hardware part of your computer which can boost up its performance or you can maintain the current the optimum capability of your computer by making sure that you have an anti-virus running on it and you have all drivers updated.
