Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

My washing machine won't fill with water. It sounds like the pump is failing. The machine is a top loaded whirlpool Ultimare Care 2. Serial number 3956588

Our water is very heavy and parts become calcified. Could this be the issue

The other item to check would be your water inlet valve. Check it for continuity with a multi meter it should show Ohms or a closed circuit. To test it when water is overflowing unplug the unit and see if it still overflows or continues to fill. If it stops when unplugged. Then it is not a water inlet problem but an electrical signal problem going to ur water inlet valve. Possibly from the panel or board. You can also do a live volt test to see if it is getting the full 120 current, but be sure to unplug unit before testing as this is a live test.
Also another trick to check the water valve, is to first cut the water off and remove the hoses off the back of the washer. Then one at a time point the hoses inside the washer tub and turn the water back on. If you don't have good water pressure, turn the water back off and remove the strainer that should be in one end of the hose. Inspect the strainer to see if it is stopped up, clean it and reinstall it. Now repeat this test. If you have good water pressure now, reinstall hose and your problem is fixed

By the way my advice is free cuz God is good!

Keeps going from boiling hot to cold

At a guess either the shower head has become clogged/calcified or the piping inside the shower has become so.

This means that water stays in the system too long, becomes over heated and the failsafe cut off activates.

Try cleaning or replacing the shower head.

The steam is building up in the water tank but not going through to the iron.

I suspect that the discharge holes have become clogged by calcified deposites due to hard water. You need to de-calcify the iron. Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water and pour this mixture in the iron and let it heat up. The acidic vinegar should dissolve the build up. repeat until clear. forthe final, use a little lemon in a cup of water to get rid of the vinegar smell. You can prevent this by using only distilled water in the iron, but this is not really practical, so a couple of clearing runs of the vinegar/water bath each month will put this off.

Very slow water fill water to washer is ok screens look ok

This problem is commonly attributed to a water inlet valve (also known as a "mixing valve") that is going bad. The valve is what the inlet hoses connect to on the back of the washer. If the sediment screens appear okay, chances are the valve may be clogged or the solenoids are failing.

If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, the inlet valve and/or fill hose sediment screens can become clogged with sediment, calcified deposits and rust resulting in a restriction of water flow. You can try cleaning the sediment screens and the water inlet valve in a 50/50 solution of distilled vinegar and hot water to see if you can dissolve any sediment or deposits. Removing the valve from the washer and allowing it to soak in the solution for about 30 minutes, then flushing it with clean water can sometimes return an inlet valve to normal operation. If cleaning the valve does not work, however, you will need to replace it. The following link explains how:

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices will vary between sites so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifing any parts you may need. If the model number you listed this question under is correct, the Water Inlet Valve number is 285805 and is listed as item 18 under the "Controls and Rear Panel" parts listing. The average price is less than $20.

If you have any questions, or if your model number is different, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Water in tub after it has been sitting all day and sometime a lot of water

This problem is commonly attributed to a water inlet valve leaking by or a pressure switch malfunction. The following link explains how to diagnose the problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, the water inlet valve can clog with sediment, rust, or calcified deposits over time and cause the valve not to close properly. This can cause leak by when not in use.

The pressure switch has a small air hose attached that, if it becomes detached or has any holes in it, will cause the pressure switch to malfunction. This can also result in a washer that fills when not in use, but will also cause the washer to overfill in most cases.

Read through the link provided and let me know if you need further assistance. I have included parts resources and procedures on how to replace each part in the link. If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore heavy duty 80 series model 110.82682810 Series # C63203374. problem with cold water intake. Very low pressure. Checked everything up to inlet

This is commonly caused by a water inlet valve that has become clogged with sediment, rust or calcified deposits over time. If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, this can be a common problem.

You can attempt to remove the inlet valve and submerge in a 50/50 solution of distilled vinegar and hot water, or you can simply replace the valve. If you decide to attempt to clean the valve, submerge it for 30 minutes (do not submerge the solenoid contacts) and then rinse with clean water. Sometimes this can clear out the sediment and return them to normal operation. However, if this does not work, you need to replace the valve.

This problem is commonly attributed to a water inlet valve that has become clogged with sediment, or kinked/clogged fill hoses.

If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, it is common that have calcified deposits, rust or sediment build up in the lines over time. You can attempt to clean the sediment screens in the hoses (if your hoses have them) and/or the inlet valve on the back of the washer. Cleaning with a 50/50 solution of distilled vinegar and hot water can often restore normal flow. If this does not work, however, the valve needs ot be replaced. The following link explains how to access the valve and replace:

My washer won't fill up it just drips water out slowly.

This is usually caused by a water inlet valve that has become clogged with sediment over time or kinked/clogged fill hoses. You can turn off the water, remove the fill hoses and check the sediment screens in the valve and the hoses. If they are clogged, try cleaning them with a 50/50 solution of distilled vinegar and hot water. For more serious sediment build up and/or calcified deposits, you can remove the valve and submerge it in the solution and allow to soak for about 30 minutes. Do not submerge the electrical connections, though. To access, remove and/or replace the valve, the following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575881-replacing_water_inlet_valve_on_whirlpool

If cleaning the valve does not work, you can purchase replacements at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

I have found these sites to be reputable and provide great service. Prices differ between them, so shop and compare. The first three sites I've listed have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If the model number is correct, the valve part number is 285805 and is listed as item 18 under the "Controls and Rear Panel Parts" heading at the sites I provided to you.

I have a Sunbeam Steam Pro iron. Because we used normal tap water, there is a build up of calcified minerals in the water tank and the inside of the baseplate of the iron itself. The iron spits out these...

try putting straight vinegar in the water tank. Let it set until you see the deposit dissolved. Pour it out, rinse and use either some decalcified water or add a couple tsp. of vinegar to the tank each time you use it.

I understand. This can be a common problem, especially if you have hard water or well water. Basically any water source that calcifies or has sediment. If this is the case, many home owners will install a whole house water filter on the washer line to prevent this from reoccurring. If this is not the case with your water, I would assume this was just one of those failures that could be attributed to normal wear and tear. Good luck to you and keep me in mind if you need further assistance.
