How to change ball bearing washer machine

Washing machine main bearings are not a picnic to replace and often needs a major stripdown for access.

If the washer is otherwise in good condition and a premium brand it is an economic repair for the repair shop to carry out. Great savings can be made by changing the bearing yourself but do not begin the job unless you are certain you are competent, have a good range of tools to hand and prepared to spend more once the job has begun. As well as the bearing kit you will need a new tub seal and possibly a new spider.

It is generally reckoned not to be economic to have the bearings replaced at the repair shop if the machine is a basic or budget model. In this case it is definitely a diy project.

My washer/dryer combo Frigidaire washer dosn't spin water out of clothes completely after spin cycles the clothes is still very wet. On the 1st spin cycle drum dosn't spin just makes noise, the 2nd and...

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire laundry center, model# FGX831CS, is not spinning water out of your clothes completely. I see that on the first spin cycle the drum is not spinning and is just making noise, and on the second spin cycle the drum spins to the left very slowly and loudly. First check to see if your washer is overloaded. Try taking some clothes out and spinning them again. Secondly, make sure that the load is not out of balance. Try rearranging the clothes to allow for proper spinning. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your dryer status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Drum seems totally unattached in the washer machine?!?!

Welcome to FixYa

Based on your description I suspect the rear bearing or spider gear is toast. You are probably right, either the suspension shock absorbers are broke or the inner basket is separated from the spider gear often times.

Very common for these machines unfortunately. It isn't too bad if just shocks, but it is a very involved repair for the spider gear/inner basket.

**Unplug the unit from the wall before attempting any of these service first**

You'll need to remove the lower access panel to investigate the shocks...these shown are the newer style but previous versions where all plastic, hence the broke much easier.

and the rear panel to inspect the basket & spider gear attachment. Check for any signs of leakage or rust behind where the arrow indicates...the tub bearing.

If you think you're up to it I can help in whatever manner possible with those Frigidaire washers.

I'll watch for your reply. Good luck.

I have a LG wm2277hw washing machine. the drum will spin a little and then make a scaping sound like friction. The drum has a lot of play in it. Is there a hard plastic washer or shim that wears out. The...

The symptoms that you describe sound like the spider or support arms of your washer has failed. It the part that holds the wash drum true in the plastic tub. It's a rather difficult job to replace the spider since the washer has to be taken apart to get to the spider. Fortunately, LG does sell the spider, instead of making you buy a new spider and drum. You may need to also replace the plastic tub parts if they are too damaged to be reused. Get a few estimates before deciding whether to repair or replace.

Hotpoint WMA35 - Noisy on spinning

This could be the bearings.

If it is you have two options:
1 - Buy another washing machine
2 - DIY possible for about £30 with all the RIGHT TOOLS, £100 if doing it properly. And even with the right tools this will take you about 3 hours, probably more.

To replace the bearings you NEED to have:
1) The parts - The replacement bearing kit (£30) and hotpoint recommend a new spider (£65) as well.
2) A tool to push the drum shaft from the casing.
3) A tool to remove the beaings. It is possible to buy a new rear casing with the bearings already fitted for about £70.
4) Patience and a supply of tea!

1 - disconnect everything and I mean everything see number 2.
2 - remove the drum casing from the chasis
3 - take off the pulley wheel
4 - open the casing
5 - remove the drum from the casing. DO NOT USE A HAMMER as the shaft deforms very easily (good job I've a new "spider"!)
6 - fit new "spider" if using. Here is where you find the bolts are rusted completely solid from spider to drum and require drilling out.
7 - remove bearings from casing (hence the need for the bearing removal tool)
8 - fit new bearings and rebuild machine (hence the need for the bearing fitting tool)

However I stopped at number 7 due to not having the right tools and I have no idea how much the right tools cost.

Trust me, take option one! £100 is a third of a new machine!

Bearings on a indest wie 167 washing machine

You can download a user manual for your m/c, but not a repair manual, Go to>
Follow the links. To remove the spider, remove the rear panel, remove drum belt, undo drum pulley, you may have to heat the screw holding the pulley, undo all screws that you can see holding the spider to drum rear.
Withdraw spider, you may have to use some force to pull it off.
Fit new bearings or spider, and reassemble..
plz rate this solution.

Noisy drum

You are describing shot bearings.

It should be perfectly possible to replace the bearings if you are able to press them out of the spider.

The usual fix is to obtain a replacement spider, your local domestic appliance repair shop should be able to supply an exchange unit.

If you attempt the repair you should check that the drum has not damaged the water heaters as it may have been these that it was grinding on.
