There are two main types of interface for disk drives in personal computers. If you give us the model numbers from the drives we can tell you for sure.

The older style drives are called IDE. They normally have a flat ribbon cable with 40/80 wires. This is probably what the 40GB uses. If your 160GB drive uses a different interface it may be a SATA interface this uses a small plug with only 3 or 4 wires. These are used in modern desktops. You can't get an adapter to simply change from one to the other. But you may find that your CD/DVD Rom uses an IDE interface and you can share the cable with two devices (if so ask here for tips on sharing a cable). You may also find an unusd IDE port on your motherboard.

If there are no IDE (40pin) interfaces to be found you can get a add on interface card that will let you run ide devices. Common cards will go into a 32 bit PCI slot on your motherboard. You will need to make sure you have a spare slot of the right type before you buy an interface card. You can get these on ebay fairly cheaply.

I have made quite a few asumptions here. Post some more information about your motherboard and the the drives you have and we can confirm things for you.

Blinking light, clicking sound?

Hard disks clicking is not a good thing. Did you drop it?

Open the case and check connections.

If you can, install it as a slave drive on another machine and attempt to recover data from there.

Afterwards check the drive for errors, reformat and delete partitions. If it is damaged then parts of it could be used as storage, but I'd advise against using it as a bootable disk and as a storage location for precious data.

Failing this, there are specialists who can recover data from corrupted drives. You'd have to speak to them about it.

Hope this helps

I have a 320 WD and I am trying to watch the movies on my PS3, but i need to format it to FAT32. How do I do it?

The only way that you can be able to format it with fat32 file system is to use a Mac Computer and use disk utility or you can also try to partition the disk using a partition size lower than 40GB.
