It may be the small vent fan motor on the inside if the control panel. When the noise begins remove the panel and you may be able to catch it in the act.

SOURCE: Fan making noise in AC

pls try to lubricate it if it got oiling port as soon as possible. if no port you may change bearing before the damaging motor . also if this type of motor does not have bearings better to change it

SOURCE: kelvinator aircon is dripping water from air vent in house

Sounds as if unit is freezing over----typically a response to lack of proper ventilation-----check all filters and access panels to unit and clear or clean as needed-----if unit has a drip pan make sure unit has been positioned properly so as to catch excess......properly ventilating unit should resolve issue though

What could be causing loud grinding noise when i switch on aircon? Aircon now not working but only makes loud sound.

Sounds like the bearing or part of the clutch in the A/C compressor has failed, or possibly component on a/c fouling on something due to recent repairs however would be unlikely and probably just a coincidence..

Check A/C compressor turns by hand, should be firm but not make any noises.

Check for fouling components related to a/c compressor clutch.

Check the fan,to make sure it is really turning fast on the high mode with ac on,not just fan.It sounds like the fan is slowing down, and not cooling the condenser, therefore cause the head pressure to rise, and producing warm air.The fan motor would have to be replaced to fix the problem if this is the case.

All users must know. There will be too dusty when unit is not used for several months rather being used.

Please do complete service and then try.

My air conditioner is making a tinny sound when it runs--both when I run the fan only and the AC.

Many noises on aircons come from a resonant frequency and can be sorted by slight re-alignment of the unit. Sometimes pushing in a paper spacer can help. You should look inside and behind the louvre at the drum fan. There may be a build up of dirt causing it to be unbalanced and also making more noise.

If this is a heat pump system it is possible that your fan blade is hitting ice on your condenser coil.
