SOURCE: Smoke or vapor coming from new h400fdn hayward pool heater.

Not at all uncommon. New heaters have to glaze over the file tile in the burner chamber and will often smoke and smell during the first week or so of operation.

Using a mirror, check to see that your flames are about 4" proud of the burner tubes when running. As long as they are and the color is a nice blue with little to no yellow/orange color, the heater is fine.

SOURCE: How to charge an auger on traeger grill

Turn the control on high and wait about three minutes. Shut contol off and restart in about 1 minute, This should have enough pellets in the auger to start before the hot rod shuts off. You can also put a hand full of pellets in the burn pot and usually bu the time these pellets are burned out the others are there. A couple of cycles usually will start them.

SOURCE: I have an electric Traeger grill. I plug it in

Make sure your grill is unplugged. Them take the controler out and there is a fuse on the back side of the control. There is also a new fuse there to replace the old one. If the fuse is blown, you could have a bad hot rod or other component that is bad. Usually the hot rod is the problem and they should be under warrenty so call Treager and get a new one sent. If the fuse blows after it is replace, you can un hook the purple wire and replace the fuse and see if it will work them. If it does, it is the hotrod.

Why is there no power to my Traeger grill

There is a fuse that you can check. There is a possibility that it is the ignitor, the auger motor, the controller, or the fan.
The process to tell which item is bad, is to disconnect all but the power and the RTD wire, plug it in and turn it to smoke, If the fuse blows it is the controller, if not turn it off and start hooking up the other wires one at a time, When you find the one that fries the fuse, you know what is bad.

Auger is not working . How do I trouble shoot

You may want to try vacuuming the area around the burn chamber or turn the auger to see if it is froze up. Same thing as a pellet furnace.

I have an older traeger and it doesnt seem to heat up on high mode. it has 2 fans and both work but one seems to knock now and again. when i cook chicken on high it will take 2 hours to cook.

The Traeger website at http://www.traegergrills.com/ has an FAQ about grills not reaching the appropriate temperature and how to adjust the augur to fix the problem. Here's what they say:
Q. I've been noticing that my grill temperature keeps dropping lower. What is the problem?

A. You need to "true" your auger. To do this:

  1. Run the unit out of pellets.
  2. Remove the allen screw and nut out of the auger and motor shaft.
  3. Try spinning the auger shaft over the motor shaft. The auger shaft should spin freely over the motor shaft without binding.
  4. If the auger binds, loosen the 7/16th inch bolts on the motor bracket and move bracket until you can rotate the auger shaft over the motor shaft. Then re-tighten 7/16th inch bolts. Make sure auger shaft still rotates over motor shaft, or repeat step 4 again until it does.
  5. Reattach auger and motor shafts using the screw and nut which you removed in step 2.
Hope this helps

On smoke setting my temp goes up over 300 degrees

Traeger suggests realignment of the augur for grills that are not getting hot enough. I wonder if this might be the same solution for grills that are getting too hot.

Here's their solution which I copied from the Traeger website at http://www.traegergrills.com/.

I've been noticing that my grill temperature keeps dropping lower. What is the problem?

You might want to contact Traeger at their website to verify that this is a solution for overheating. In the above case, the improperly aligned augur was not dropping enough pellets in the firepot. In your case, it sounds like it may be dropping too many. This sounds like a routine maintenance thing that ought to be done periodically anyway.

Treager smoke auger won't turn

If the auger won't turn because it's jammed, here's details direct from Treager

Elswise, I would check your electrical on the back of your control panel. There should be three sets of two-wire leads: (1) Purple/White=Hot Rod; (2) Orange/White=Induction Fan; and (3) Red/White=Auger. Obviously, check the Red/White leads for voltage and continuity.

Whenever you finish using your Traeger it is always best to lift the lid and turn the controller down to the smoke setting and allow the temp to drop for a few minutes. This will also slow down the delivery of fresh pellets into your firepot thus starving the fire of fuel.Once the temp drops below 200 deg F than shut off the controller. If you have any wind blowing remove your Traeger out of the draft of the wind and the fire will go out on its own.

Grill will not turn on

I assume you are referring to the auger motor. If so, have you checked the electric receptacle the g=auger motor is plugged into? Plug another electric appliance, like a lamp into the receptacle to see if the lamp works. If not, look for a tripped circuit breaker in your home's breaker panel. If one is tripped, make sure nothing is plugged into the offending receptacle and reset the breaker. Plug the auger motor back in to see if the breaker trips again. If does, there's an electrical issue with the auger motor or the cord.

If none of the above is the problem, i have included a link to Traeger Industries website. There you can find and download the Owners Manual for your Grill-Smoker, which also has a Trouble Shooting Section.

I'm getting an "Err" message on my digital temperature reading. The grill starts up but then shuts down when the "Err" message comes up.

Remove your grill, inner shield and outer dip plate from the Traeger. Start the Traeger in smoke mode. Observe to see if the blower fan is working. Is the auger turning? Are the pellets dry? Condensation can make the pellets swell and cause plug ups.
