I happened to me once and it was a case of a shoestring getting sucked into the pump. I had to disassemble the pump to get it to work again.

Washer smells like burnt rubber

What is the make and model of your washer? I had a similar problem with my Maytag - there was a burnt resistor on the control board. We ended up just buying a new washer since the cost for parts alone was close to $400...the labor would have been a DIY-thing (15 minutes easily for the greenest amateur).

Washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

Rainbow Vacuum smells like something is burning.

Your belt is worn and that is why there is a burnt rubber smell. You need to change your belt. You can find a replacement belt and instructions here:

Burning rubber smell followed by a hum and the washer stopped

Hi, there was some sort of gear trauma inside the gear case that locked up all rotation during full motion. I'm sure this destroyed the motor and all the windings inside the motor. the clutch was damaged as well. you may have to replace the entire drive assembly and motor. if you have a warranty, im sure this will be covered if the warrenty is still good.

Replaced Motor Coupling but now I have electrical smell when running

You can test the washer with the case removed by by-passing the lid switch. You will need to jumper the two BLACK wires at the lid switch connector (where it connects to the timer).

With the case removed, and the washer UNPLUGGED. Locate the lid switch connector and jumper the two BLACK wires. Plug washer back in and carefully turn the timer on to start. You will be able to visibly inspect the washer while it is running. The Drive Motor should not start running until the washer fills completely. Set the washer on the lowest water setting to reduce fill time. Usually electrical smells are attributed to the Drive Motor and/or Start Capacitor. Make sure the connectors are all on properly and not loose. Loose or corroded connections can cause arcing and/or burning. Inspect all the wiring for any signs of chaffing or burning. Use caution not to touch any of the electrical connections while the washer is running or energized. Running the washer with the case removed is primarily for giving you a visual for any obvious signs of problems. Any wire and connector checks should be done with power removed. I hope this information helps you. Please post back if you require further assistance.
