A traditional front post dc is not worked in a loop like most stitches. Instead, it is worked around the "post" of the stitch on the previous row. To work a fpdc, yo, insert your hook into the space before the stitch to be worked around and back through on the other side (the stitch you are working around should be in front of your hook, yo, pull hook back through (there should be 3 loops on your hook), and complete dc as normal.
