I had that same problem on my mom's kenmore dryer. I replaced the temp control which has 4 wires and mounts on the filter housing.
I located a cheap one on ebay: Genuine OEM 3387134 Whirlpool Kenmore Dryer Cycling Thermostat eBay

Clothes not drying. Dryer feels hot but clothes remain damp through several cycles.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Heats up but takes several cycles to get clothes dryer

Check for a restriction in your exhaust vent. not just behind the machine but all the way to the outside vent, should have good warm airflow at outside vent. With no good air flow you have no way to get rid of the moisture. and all you will end up with is warm moist clothes. this can happen slowley happen over time and next thing you know it takes several cycles to dry the clothes .it cost a lot to dry them this way

Dryer model #le86000kq1...clothes are taking long time to dry..have to repeat drying process several times before clothes are actually dry

Candace-
It may be as simple as dryer duct needs cleaning. I provide that service to several of my commercial customers in group homes. When the duct work is partially closed from build up it reduces dryer efficentcy. Also if you have flex vinyl duct work replece it, its a fire waiting to happen.

My Maytag gas dryer is not heating correctly. It gets warm, but takes several cycles to dry even small loads.

If you have'nt done it yet, my first suggestion would be to have the vent on the dryer (inside the dryer all the way to the fan chamber) and the dryer vent pipe to the outside thoroughly cleaned.
That is leading cause for dryers not drying completely.
Also, has the dryer always been a bit slow to dry cloths? If so, try leaving a window open the next time and see if it makes a difference. Some houses are sealed so tight, the dryer can't get enough air. A typical dryer will use up to 200 cu/ft of air per minute when drying. If there is not sufficient air, the cloths take longer to dry.
Good luck, let me know.

Dryer is heating but not get clothes dry...

make sure you have a strong air flow from the dryer it self take hose off and run the unit it should force your hand away if not your dryer is stopped up you will have to take fan casing off and clean (the metal going to hole for vent hose) if you do go outside and make sure you vent outside is opening and free of lint also wash your lint filter with warm soapy water fabric sheets stop them up and cause longer drying time
