Question about Sewing Machines

Starting with 12 sts I am to work the following row: K2, ywfd, (yrn) twice, p1,yrn, p2tog, k4, yfwd, k2tog, k1. 14 sts. The 2nd and 3rd instruction does not make sense and I result in 13 sts.

    I understand the yrn, it's when its followed or preceded by a yfwd it makes a loop round the needle instead of a st. I did persevere doing exactly as instructed and it did work and looks ok but it seems a very alien thing to do.

The pattern says s1, k1,ym, k2tog, knit to end of row.


S1 = slip next stitch
K1 = knit one
YRN = Yarn Over (not YM!)
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
Knit to end of row

knit 2 stiches., knit 2 stitches together, bring yarn forward then over the needle and stitch like this twice, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. Knit 19 stitches
