Readings are specific to each person
talk with your doctor and get the parameters for your condition and then keep a reading each time you test so that the doctor cam see what is normal for you

My blood pressure is 142 over 80 I'm 71 year old female is that normal my doctor didn't seem concerned

That is ok, but high normal. And age has no bearing on blood pressure, what is high for 12 year old is high for an 80 year old. Are you carrying extra pounds? If so loose them and lower the risk of a heart attack by lowering the blood pressure reading. You can read more at

My blood pressure seems to be going up and down ,,this morning it was 118/ the moment it is 139/60 I am an active 84 year old female

Those readings aren't bad, although the lower (diastolic) reading could be seen as a bit low according to published guidelines.

Blood pressure does vary through the day, and in your age group is more likely to possibly need management purely because the plumbing is not what it used to be when you were 18 !!

So to set your mind at rest, and to make sure there is nothing serious creeping up, get along to your doctor and ask about normal readings for you.

I see you possibly have your own BP meter, and that is a good idea, I have one also, an Omron (plug there). If so, take that too and ask the doc to calibrate it, that is, verify it is accurate.

Good luck

What is a normal blood pressure for a person who is 73?

140/90 or lower. Not as low as your readings, though. Please consult your doctor.

Questions regarding Healthcare Options in the US

Look into the State run subsidy to see if she qualifies. other than that - this is one reason why the bill stinks. I have a brother his employer dropped all medical benefits.. Employees can buy their own ..he has 1000 a month he has to come up with from nothing or pay the penalty and be uninsured. Unfortunately it is going to get worse, rates are going up this year and the full impact of the Law comes after 2016 [convenient] I am for everyone having insurance but why did they not just have all employers required to provide it. [I know they said they could not afford it and compete... so hmm but the employees somehow were hoarding their money and not buying it] ? Hmmm. I think there are two good parts in the bill no preexisting conditions and no limits ..sorry for the rant..

I am age 73 , female and my BP runs 132/67 is this normal?

120/80 is the so called average or normal. Yours looks reasonable for your age. Unless one of your readings surpasses 140/90 you should be fine.
