SOURCE: Viking Professional VWH4848 fan hood not working

Have you tested with a VOM to see if there is juice at the plug in question? If not, trace it back to the control/switch area and test there... Careful!

Hood not getting power. Authorized viking tech said I need to get an installer to remove the hood before he could see what the problem is. Is this typical of techs to not remove to troubleshoot?

It depends on the installation: larger hoods, intricate installs and liability concerns could all raise this concern by a tech. It should be simple to begin by checking for electric at the wiring connection inside the hood terminal box without removing the hood from the cabinet. If there is no power supplied to the hood then an electrician should correct the fault in the house wiring.

The filters on our viking hood keep falling out. Seems like when a little grease builds up on the ledge of the hood the filter comes crashing down on the stove. Anyone else having this issue? Better yet...

I'm having the same problem, and I'm fed up. One of these days the filter is going to fall into a boiling pot and potentially seriously injuring someone. I'm surprised this isn't a recall issue with these hoods. I've temporarily fixed it by applying exhaust muffler tape to the filter and hood where it rests ( on the area closest to the wall). This is a temporary fix, however. I do plan on taking this serious problem up with Viking. This is a serious design flaw that can be potentially very dangerous.

Viking 6440, sticks in reverse. Hair dryer on high temp. fixes it until it cools off. How can I clean the old grease out and add new grease, myself? Repair is 425.00 at the shop.

You need to purchase a de-greaser spray to clean out the old grease. Im sorry but Im not an expert at this type of machine, but most of the inner workings are similar to all brands. You need to remove the top to expose the crankshaft device that is inside, and spray with a de-greaser. If you know the area where it sticks try that area first. A common de greaser is actually WD40. It lubricates and de greases, you could try this, if available in your area. You may have to use a lithium based grease for that machine I cannot say for certain. I do however have a link to the Husqvarna help site if that will help..

I bought an older unit Viking Ultra line range hood. I'm cleaning it and wonder how I should go about cleaning the blades of the squirrel cage fans. Thanks. Karen

I took the motor out of the range hood. There is a set screw holding the squirrel cage fan in place which I unscrewed enough to slide the fan part off. I then boiled the part in a deep pan with lots of dish soap. I then brushed away the remaining debris. Avoid using dishwasher detergent which is effective but seems to erode the aluminum.

Vents in the Viking hood fall out on their own

Remove the filters.
The slot that the filters sit in at the rear edge, can be removed, it is basically hooked into place.

When you remove it you will see that the sides are different, reinstall it with the smaller edge hooked thus leaving the larger edge to hold the filters in place.

I hope this is clear.

Viking hood damper

Remove the blower and reach up into the duct through the back flow damper and put weather stripping on the 2 edges that are chattering, it will greatly reduce the noise
