SOURCE: polaroid 2700 hdtv power supply
The only place I have been able to find the power supply or main board for this is shopjimmy.com or Ebay but even there I can find none.Tell your husband to check for puffy capacitors in the power supply. This is a very common problem with these power supplys.

Check the main fuse
If that is ok look for puffed up capacitors on the power supply
Check the 1000ufd @ 35v change them to 1000uf @ 50volts

Start by confirming the circuit is hot at the wall. Plug in a lamp or something.
Try your generic cord with another device to eliminate it as a variable.
What sort of cord is it?
