SOURCE: Model 342 Benjamin Franklin 22 caliber air gun

I recently purchased a rebuild kit for my 342. I bought the kit from airgundepot. It was the kit for the
392 and I modified it a little. On the new plunger, you have to drill a hole in the center of it the same
size as the pin's smallest diameter. You can use all of the parts in this kit except for the small o-ring. I think it sold for about 39 dollars or so. My rifle was manufactured in 1972 and it fires like new.

What was year of manufacture of Browning .22 lr semi-auto rifle serial number 1T99556?

hi Anonymous.

I've been through several possibilities on the Browning 'Date Your Gun' website at
Browning Date Your Gun The most promising is here:
22 Semi Auto Rifle The codes here are consistent with the one you put up, and describes itself as the '22 Semi-Auto Rifle'

From this document, single digit before the T indicates manufacture between 1956 and 1967. The T means 'Long Rifle Caliber'. The remaining digits are the serial number. Since they started with a four digit number, and yours is close to 100,000, I'd guess closer to the end of that era than the beginning. Later than that and the serial would start with two digits for year of manufacture. Earlier than that, there are no serial number records. Manuals can be found here :

Hoping this answers your question!

I have a Remington rifle which is a 22 caliber octagon barrel rolling block type serial number J282433. Any info on this rifle would be appreciated.

Could use more info, such as markings on the barrel and or breach. The Remington rolling block type single shot goes back to the 1860'S. The first 22 calibers around 1888. The rolling block went through 8 changes. The different types or changes are where various pins and screws are located, size and shape of hammers and triggers. The New Model Number 4, made from 1890 - 1933 came standard in 22 cal. with a 22 1/2 inch Oct. barrel. It will have a small lever on the right side of the breach. Approx 50,000 of these where made between the years noted. You could very well have a model 1, 2 or a model 7, which will be rare if in very good shape as only 1000, No. 7's where made. Tracking the serial number will be hard unless you contact Remington.

Would like more info - you can post pictures here. The Essex brand was manufactured by a number of companies ie.. Crescent, Harrington & Richardson, and Stevens for distribution by Belknap Hardware Co. in St Louis, and Folsom's retail outlets in N.Y. there is mention of a plant in Kentucky, and New York. Crescent being the most common , operated from 1893 to 1930. There doesn't seem to be any source to pinpoint dates of manufacture by serial numbers. Crescent was a subsidiary of H&D Folsom Sporting Goods, New York. Many of their products were sold through Folsom's retail outlets, but Folsom was also a large wholesale dealer and many Crescent guns were marked with the names or trademarks of other retail chains and even independent hardware stores.
