Question about Vacuums

Open Question

Sebo X4 burning smell

There is a strong burning smell - plastic/electrical coming from the machine and sparks come out the side after 5 mins. Is it new brushes for the motor or a new motor or could the clutch be slipping? Prior to this happening the inside of the roller brush was stripped and I had to replace it. I have replaced both drive belts but this has not improved things.

SOURCE: Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.

Try replacing the belt. My vacuum cleaner had the same problem and once the belt was changed the burning smell was gone.

SOURCE: Eureka 5843 belt keeps slipping off of drive spindle.

Tough one. Typically the only 2 things that the belt contacts is the motor drive spindle and the brush roller. Anything else would only be there to protect the belt from debris. Can you turn the brush by hand and see why the belt is coming off? Is the spindle wobbly? If so, you may need another motor as I don't think it is easy to get parts for the motor. Hope this helps and good luck!

Sebo x4 grinding noise and smell. have changed both belts but problem persists

Suspect the motor bearings.
Many machines now have too much plastic, causing melt down within a short time after the warranty has expired.
Might be time for replacement.
God bless your efforts.

I started vacuuming and the vacuum motor slowed down, then stopped. I smelled a burning smell. Then I discovered the next day that the bag bottom was wet and falling apart. Sebo X4 model

sucked up liquid goes with the air through the motor
that would cause the motor to burn out
with the current low cost of new vacuums , the repair /replacement of the motor would be close to a new unit
take it to an appliance repair shop and get a proper diagnosis and quote

How to remove retention clip on sebo x4 to repair electric cable

Check out Espares video on how to repair and replace cable on the SEBO X1. It is the same machine as the X4, only difference is a different motor and cosmetic differences. I rely on this video and a few of the others that this company have done on You Tube for SEBO repairs.

Don't forget to rate, thanks.

How do I replace electric brushes in the motor

It will take far longer for me on how to do this, but I did it myself using this fantastic espares video on You Tube. Carbon brushes are really easy to remove as are other areas. X1A, X1.1, X4 and X5 Extra are all the same model, save from cosmetic differences, different motor outputs and bigger floor head and brush roller on the X5.

Sebo vac grinding noise and burnt smell

Take it to your local vac shop for assessment. Sounds like a bad motor. If they are not a Sebo dealer, make sure they know that a X1 motor is not the same as an X4 motor. It should cost around $200 for the total repair . A new X4 is $799 so the repair is usually a good idea.

I have many SEBO automatic X4 vacuums with broken foot pedals. I would like to buy 5 foot pedals that I believe the part number is 5059DG can you tell me where to get it

I guess that depends where you live... plenty of spares sources online (google sebo vacuum spares)... otherwise google sebo dealerships in your country/locality.

My primary drive belt is wearing the plastic

Only two possibilities. Either the motor has not been installed properly (it's out of alignment), or the intermediate pulley is out of alignment. Of the two, I'd suspect the intermediate pulley first (except then you'd expect trouble with the secondary belt too...). If you've already solved the problem, perhaps you'd post a comment to let us know what you found.

Spare wire?

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

I took a picture of the Sebo X4 wiring in the handle of the machine for you. This is a brand new machine taken out of the box, this is how the wiring should look. You'll see that there are 5 total wires here. You'll see the positive and negative from the cord at the top, and the wires that come up from the bottom of the handle are below plug. There is a blue, white, and black wire coming up from the bottom of the handle.

The blue and white should be on spade connector below the white cord lead, and on the right hand side the single black wire from the handle should be attached beneath the black cord lead.

If the machine is still working, then it must have been the Blue or ground wire that you removed, correrct? I'm not sure if this will hurt the machine, but the wire is definitely there for a reason, and if you still have it you may want to reconnect it.

If you'd like to contact Sebo directly and speak with a product specialist there, their phone number is;
800-334-6614.
