Question about Water Heaters

Open Question

My Vaillant atmomag produces very hot water as long as water pressure is set to lowest possible & temp is turned high, but it then cuts out. Is there an automatic cut off if the heater gets too hot??

After running hot for about 10 mins it cuts off and runs completely cold. I then switch the water off and wait a short time and it then starts to run hot again. I have tried increasing the water pressure or turning the heat down further, the water is then not hot enough

SOURCE: Have an Atwood LP water

Hi,

You have a bad thermostat/ECO.... the ECO cuts out and will keep you from relighting till it cools.

Here is a site that has parts for your heater, but you will need to know the exact model number to get the right part.

SOURCE: hi my vaillant combi gives hot water for only 15 seconds then runs cold turn the tap off, run the water again & gets hot then runs cold some told me it might be the diverter valve can any body hel

yes it is your expansion vessel it sounds under charged to me?your expansion vessel needs to be recharged to 1 bar at least, but check manufacturers instructions it could state different.if the heating is fine and your getting hot water in intervals your diverta valve is moving and working?

I turned up the water temp on my gas water tank, and water leaked from the side pipe..do I need to repalce the pressure release valve or is this normal?

Any time your pressure release valve goes off you should replace it. the t&p valve responds to the temperature and pressure its possible that the setting you chose was to hot, or its possible that the relief valve was just worn out. I would replace that and keep your temp setting between B and C. another possibility is thermal expansion, check and make sure your expansion tank is good and if you don't have one I highly recommend it.

Hot water pressure valve blows

it is set to go off at 210 degrees or 150 lbs turn down the temp setting if the water is very hot it is unlikely that your water pressure is that high . if it still goes off replace the valve it is also possible that the gas valve which is also a thermostat is malfunctioning and allowing the water to get to hot. if so replace.

Electric wh high temp shut off button keeps resetting

Water heater has upper and lower elements. Only one t-stat. Check to see where tstat is set to. Turn down to lowest level. If breaker still resets then replace tstat. It is letting the water get to hot no matter what setting it's on. So water is getting so hot that it trips breaker.

New Vaillant 360 eco plus boiler, takes almost 3/4s an hour for rads to come up to a decent temp. Hot water is fine. Called out install Engineer who is an excellent tradesman but he says everything

We have just had our old system boiler replaced with a vaillant ecotec plus 837 and sounds like a similar working operation to ours. At first I was a little concerned, but I was told by our installer that he was told by vaillant that these very latest boilers size the system on start up for about 10 mins, then take temperature to target flow which you set boiler at. So even by setting target flow temperature very high you still get the initial sizing cycle, which ours was about 30-35c temp. These boilers seem to run biased for efficiency as after a while they modulate the boiler burner down and the radiators run more on the side of warm than really hot like the old type boilers. You also get better efficiency as at lower temperature the boiler condenses better. You will also find you get a more constant temperature in your home rather than over shoots. I was concerned at first, shame there was no info/explanation in user manual as people do need to know that this is normal operation. We are used to ours now, took a month and by the way these boilers can make a creaking noise but was told this normal expansion/ contraction but annoying when sited in bedroom cupboard. Best of luck!

I have a hot water heater that when running seems to build up an excessive amt of pressure. We just replaced the pressure valve because the old one started leaking when the hot water was running for any...

The most likely problem is that the thermostats are set too high. Remove the thermostat cover plates and look to see where the thermostats are set. The range should be between 120F and 135F. Liquids expand with heat so the higher the temp, the high the pressure. Decrease the setting on the thermostat until the leak stops.

The other likely cause is a head of air trapped in the top of the tank. After drawing hot water, it wiill be displaced by the incoming cold makeup water. This will compress any air in the top of the tank. As the water heats, the air will heat and pressure will build - possibly causing the leak. You can purge the tank of air by opening the pressure relief valve until water comes out (which I assume that you have already tried).
