Have you checked in the device manager to make sure there are no devices in the "Unknown" category? Look in Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management -> Device Manager. If your sound device is under a the Yellow then its drivers are not recognized. You need to remove the driver and reinstall the correct driver. If *********** board has a built in sound card you will need to find the drives from the mother board web site. Don't use the automatic detected ones from Microsoft. Hope this helps. Let us know how you go? :)

This happen usually when there is a resource conflict. Check there is no resource conflict. If there is no conflict, then check if Audio is Disable from BIOS. It is also possible that Audio Cable is defective. Also uninstall the drivers, reboot PC and install the drivers again. (ehteshamhusain@yahoo.com)

Sound low

There are several audio settings on the system that you can increase the volume from. You have one that is by the lower part of the system, it used to be like a tuning fork, some have theirs by the top of the keyboard by the switch, while some have theirs by the side of the system.

First you need to check the audio settings from your computer, by clicking on the speaker icon that is on the task bar of the system, then you increase it from there. Or you click on the speaker icon on the task bar then click on the mixer, then you increase all the volume you will see in the mixer settings. It will show you the operating systems volume, the systems volume and other sound systems volume on the system.

After doing that, the sound of the operating system will be high.

Volume speaker icon not show

The volume speaker Icon wont show usually because you have no sound drivers installed. To confirm this,
1) Go to your control panel and double click on "Sounds and Audio devices"
2) The window that appears sholu show the device volume slider active - which means the driver works fine and is installed. If this is so, click on "place volume icon in task bar".

If not, you need to install the sound drivers for your device.

IM box will not appear

The system tray (in short: systray, nowadays also called taskbar notification area) is the icon strip normally located near the right end of the task bar, next to the clock.
Some Windows XP installations show a peculiar defect in that some systray icons disappear or, rather, do not appear, when the system is booted and the user logs on. The problem is even more prevalent on systems with autologon. The most frequently affected icons seem to be the speaker icon (sound volume) and the power/energy icon.
This has nothing to do with the hide inactive icons settings. The defect shows up when you don't have any icons set for hiding.
In any case, please make sure for now that you haven't activated that setting. Right-click the task bar, click on Properties, uncheck the last check box. You can reactivate it later if all other problems are identified or solved.
Check your Startup folder and the starter registry entries through Start, Run..., type: msconfig, press Enter, to check whether the programs are really started at system start, or use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see whether the processes are running.

I have an acer t671 tower. it recognises a speaker but the sound does not come out

your sound drivers may not be correct.
Do you have a volume icon in your task bar.
If not then go to control panel then sounds and audio device.See in there if you have the option to show icon in task bar.If the colour is faded and you can't change the options then it probably is a sound driver problem So you will need to reinstall your driver
