Sounds like the upper thread is hanging up somewhere. Check that the thread is not looped around a thread guide or is catching on something, like the thread notch on the thread spool, etc. Usually, it is correctly by totally rethreading the machine. When threading the upper thread, be sure to ALWAYS raise the presser foot so the thread will seat completely in the tension disk. If the machine is threaded correctly and still has an issue, there could be a problem with the tension mechanics.

How do you adjust the tension control on an Elna lotus SP

The tension dial is on the front of the machine right above the needle. The higher the number, the tighter the tension is applied to the top thread. HINT: When threading the top thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot throughout the entire threading process. This allows the thread to seat completely in the tension disk. Tension is correct when the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

How do i adjust the tension on elna 2003?

Not quite sure what you are asking. The upper tension is governed by the tension disk. Higher number is tighter, lower number is looser. Usually, the mid-range is a good place to start. Tension is correct when upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

NOTE--ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading so the thread will seat in the tension disk!

Is it possible to change the foot pressure.is it also possible

Some machines do have a presser foot pressure adjustment. Since you didn't provide a make/model, we're not able to assist further. You'll have to consult your owner's manual.

The upper tension is usually totally adjustable. As a matter of fact, the upper tension is the first place to adjust tension. Just be sure to RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread so it will seat in the tension disk. If the upper thread is showing under the fabric, it is too loose. If the bobbin thread is pulling to the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight. Tension will change with needle, thread, and fabric, so before beginning a new project, always test on a scrap piece of the fabric first. The tension is correct when the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric.

As a sewist, you should become comfortable with adjusting the upper tension as needed.

My bottom stich is longer than my top switch. What setting do I need to change?

if your saying that the bobbin loop is too large , 1st ck your bobbin tension clip ,(tiny spring clip with screw on it) thread should slip thru using three of your closed fingers in a over/under arrangement as a puller if you have correct tension , next ck your main tension , lots of times I see thread pulls its from the main tension is too tight for the fabric being used (this one needs to be adj for each fabric ? and it pulls thru fabric making it bunch up under presser foot

Model 820ex. Why does it have thread nesting, thread breaking, and uneven tension?

You might try cleaning the tension disks by dampening a length of pearl cotton with rubbing alcohol, open the tension disk all the way, raise the presser foot, and then pull the pearl cotton down between the disks a couple of times.

Clean away the lint and thread pieces from the feed dogs and bobbin area. Oil your machine according to the instruction manual--use only fresh good quality sewing machine oil--only 1 or 2 drops of oil each place.

Install a brand new needle. Make sure you are using a needle and thread that are compatible with the fabric you are sewing--that the thread is not too big for the needle's eye, etc.
All About Needles

Make sure you RAISE the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread. Rethread the thread from the beginning checking that thread is not wrapping around the spool pin or catching somewhere in the threading sequence.

Verify that you are threading the machine correctly. Misthreading will cause havoc and frustration!

Do not use old or bargain bin thread--Coats & Clark does create problems for some machines.

You might try pulling the bobbin thread to the top before beginning to sew. This helps prevent some of the thread nests you are experiencing.
How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

The factory tension setting is usually the halfway point between the high and low number. This is where you should start testing your tension. Once you sew a sample, if the top thread is looping/knotting (bird nesting) under the fabric, the upper tension is most likely too loose. If the bobbin thread is pulling to the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight. Get used to adjusting the upper tension every time you change fabric, needle, thread. The upper tension is not meant to be static, so don't be afraid to adjust to achieve the proper tension.

Ideal tension is when both the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric.

Top thread too tight. Bobbin thread too loose. Bobbin thread bunches up underneath material. The feeder teeth can not feed material through

first thing first - thread inside bobbin should be tightly wound in. Insert bobbin into bobbin case and thread through slot and under the spring. Spring has small screw which regulates the tension. Hold the thread like yo-yo and jerk a little down-up. It should drop just a little (not run down) - that is usually required bottom thread tension,
if not, regulate with the screw. Set top thread tension 3 and sew. If still looping under, increase the top tension higher till the looping disappears. .

Bobbin thread too loose moves fast when thread is pulled

***Adjust the top thread. It must be fed through the tension properly. It is best to feed the thread with the pressure foot up. While threading the machine give small tugs to check for stuck areas. Fix these even if you have to replace the thread.
***Don't thread needle yet. Now, Set the pressure foot down. Give small tugs. There should be some tugs. Adjust the tension up and down while doing this to make sure the tension is functioning.
***Thread the needle and set the tension to four. Adjust if necessary as you sew.
That is your problem. However, I've placed a guide how to set the tension of the bobbin.

My elna overlocker 925 puckers fabric at pressure foot please how can i fix this?

This is usually caused by incorrect thread tension. Light weight fabric with the tension too high will pucker fabric. Thread that is too heavy or light for the fabric throws the tension off.

Why won't my Elna SU model 62c feed fabric?

thread looping on the underside is a symptom of no tension on the top thread so you need to look at the top threading path and the tension dial, is it set to 5? and is the thread pulled fully into the tension disc? Also always thread the top thread with the presser foot raised as this opens up the tension discs so the thread can bed in correctly. If you can see the feed dogs rising up and down above the needle plate during their cycle then they should be gripping and moving the fabric forward. Is there presser foot coming down firmly onto the fabric when you release the presser foot bar? This part does have a big spring inside which applies pressure downwards, maybe this is what the mechanic meant was broken. Was he a sewing machine technician? Maybe try to locate an old school Elna technician, start with www.elna.com and go to your country, then search for a local dealer.

Could be a host of things to trouble shoot,
Needle, is it sharp and right size for fabric type? Sharp for woven or ball point for knit
Is threading up correct, you don't say which model but this is link to threading a Star Series SU
http://youtu.be/xEn3dNeiTqs
Is bobbin wound nice and smoothly, also should be Elna 7hole bobbin which is slightly dished and holes one side. Always wind with holes on top and load same way, when you draw thread off bobbin will rotate anticlockwise. Also check bobbin thread has clicked into tension spring. You will hear it click in. If you lift upwards and thread comes free then try again, push down on thread with finger tip till it clicks into spring.
Is top tension dial clean between discs, always thread with presser foot raised so thread goes into tension fully. Is thread in take up lever, and through all thread guides?
Top tension dial on 5
That's my regular trouble shooting list, hope it helps or add more details
