Question about Roomba Vacuums

Open Question

My roomba will not charge on the dock. I have had it for 1 year. The dock is receiving power as the green light is flashing. What can we do?

If we hold the back of the roomba up it charges.

Is the power light pulsing when on charger? Make sure you have the battery in correctly and snapped securely into place. Only charge on the home base, do not plug in directly.

SOURCE: Roomba Docking Station

Probably not, unless you just have to have the docking station. My roomba always had trouble mating with my docking station so I never used it. I just plugged it directly in to will using the AC adapter.

SOURCE: My Roomba Discovery doesn't appear to hold a charge

cor2an,
That sounds like a classic battery failure in the Roomba discovery series. There are sensors inside the battery pack that go bad too. Either way...it's not very practical to repair the battery....the best shot you have would be to order a replacement battery. You just pop the old one out and then put the new one in.

They are available from iRobot for $69 at this link: http://store.irobot.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2799714&cp=2804606.3358509&ab=CMS_AccSuper_Roomba400_102308&parentPage=family

There are sources of less expensive (about $35) Genuine iRobot quality batteries also. You could try www.RoboticVacParts.com at this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-iRobot-APS-battery-Roomba-400-4XXX-Discovery_W0QQitemZ270412120603QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef5d1821b&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30

SOURCE: My Roomba 560 does not charge - Rapid orange flash

Battery problem. If the battery is absolutely new, still it can be battery problem. But if the battery is old then replace the battery. To confirm the battery fault check the voltage of battery with meter. It should show exact volt.At least 12 volt.If the battery gets warm then the charging circuit is working but if not then the charging circuit is not working.failure is due to a failure with U2/U4 in the charging circuit. --------- For more troubleshooting,if you require service manual for your roomba model, please click on this link directly:--- http://choisirsonaspirateur.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Roomba-500-Series-Service-Manual.pdf ------------

Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Your manuals are here. Flashing lights must be covered. A quick look at the site says flashing red is bin full. In fact, I found it. Flashing Amber is CHARGING.

Bad battery most likely. Could be a faulty charger too. Have your local vac shop test it.

The light on my Roomba flashes amber very quickly when plugged in directly with the adapter. what does this mean? it usually flashes slower when docked.

If Roomba senses that its battery has been significantly discharged, Roomba will enter a special 16-hour refresh charge cycle. When the 16-hour refresh charge is initiated, the CLEAN light will quickly pulse red/amber. Do not interrupt the cycle once it has begun. The 16-hour refresh charge cycle is initiated by the robot and cannot be started manually.
For long-term storage, always remove the battery from Roomba and store in a cool, dry place. Blue or black batteries should be stored after Roomba has been used. Yellow batteries should be stored after being fully charged.
Battery capacity reduces overtime and usually the battery will need to be replaced each year.

My irobot (Roomba)is only working for 10 mins then

It should take about 6 hrs to charge. I had the same problem and reset the charging circuit. 1) Charge it until the green light comes on. 2) Unplug and pull battery out. 3) hold down the power on button 15-30 seconds. 4.) Put the battery back in, plug in the charger (direct - not through the dock) and charge for 72 hrs. Then, run at Max clean until the "I'm dead" tune plays.

I unplugged the docking station and now does not work

I actually had the same issue with mine.. it was 6 years old and just stopped finding the docking station. Also wouldnt take a charge. So I just eliminated the docking station. The stations power cord will charge the unit. Hope this helps.

IRobot 530 charges intermittently

Reset the Roomba: hold down "spot" and "dock/demo" for fifteen seconds, then release and listen for the tune. Then charge the Roomba overnight. The next time you run it, the unit should run longer. If not, call support and let them know you may have a battery problem. 1-877-855-8593 (I strongly encourage you to have the Roomba with you if you call.)

Roomba cuts off after a minute or so.

If you have a 400 series Roomba, try removing the battery, then holding down the power button for ten seconds, then recharging the unit before you run it again.

If you have a 500 series Roomba, don't take out the battery-- just press and hold the "spot" and "dock" buttons for about fifteen seconds. The Roomba will play a tune, and you can then charge it and try running it again later.

My Roomba does not want to dock

Need more info.
Does the unit go into search mode? "SPOT & CLEAN" flashing? It actually tries to search?
Do you have another roomba to test your dock on to see if IT will dock? If it tries but just cant, then either the dock transmitter, or the roombas receiver is dead. (The round antennae thingys on the dock and the bumper) replace these would be the first point.

Same thing happened to me, I called the company, and they told me to remove the battery, press the on button for 5 seconds, which clears the system, replace the battery and do a long charge 12 hours. I'm in the process of doing that now.
