SOURCE: I just installed a new whirlpool jacuzzi tub with

if the light on the heater is not coming on when the tub is full of water and the pump is on then the heater is not working.
check the circuit breaker to make sure it is on.
the heater and the pump cannot be on the same circuit. They have to be on separate circuits.
Make sure they are on separate circuits.
Check to make sure you have the heater installed in the correct place.
there is a pressure heater that mounts anywhere after the discharge of the pump.
there is a vacuum heater that mounts in front of the pump in the suction line.
if you put on or the other in the wrong place it will never come on.

In line heaters will not HEAT the water, they will only maintain the temperature inside the tub within a few degrees. You should not try to install the heater yourself, it would be best to have a plumber come over and give you a quote on how much it would be to install it. A plumber can look at the tub, see if there is a place that the heater can be CUT IN to the pipes, and install it. You likely won't get it to work. The inline heaters are required to be put on a GFCI circuit because they are powered in a wet environment. Unless your tub is not hardwired in to the house, and you actually have a GFCI circuit under the tub. But like I said, these do not heat the tub, they only maintain. And the life of these is not very long if you use soaps and shampoos in the tub while the heater is on. It won't take any time at all for the oils to build up on the elements, rendering it useless.

I have an older Jacuzzi with 4 corner spa jets. There is no inline heater in it. Since it takes about 180 gallons of water to fill it I would like to add an inline heater so that the heat can be maintained...

I have the same problem. I talked to Jacuzzi technical support and they said that they don't sell a product that will retrofit (they make the couplings a custom size to prevent this.) It's really a drag since I really don't want to install a whole new tub just to maintain water temperature. I haven't given up so if you found a solution please post.

There is no hot water after we installed

If you currently have hot water coming to other parts of the house, and you have patiently waited for the hot water to reach the tub, then you don't have a hot water line connected to the faucet. Also, because a hot tub or whirlpool can hold more water than your water heater holds, an inline heater is often used. It attaches to the plumbing system on the whirlpool.

How do you know if a heater is compatible with your whirlpool tub?

look at the heater you have. it will say either Pressure Inline Heater or Vacuum Heater. The pressure heater installs after the pump and the vacuum heater will install before the pump in the suction line.

Inline heaters for whirlpool bathtubs will not and cannot maintain any comfortable water temperature. Their sole function is to slow the time it takes for the water to cool off. The myth of their capabilities has long been a misleading sales propaganda joke in the industry.

Not all manufacturers put their model numbers on their tubs. Those that do will almost always post it on a label in the area of the tub where the back usually rests in the region of the motor but not on the motor itself.

I believe your quarter size cap is an air control for you jet. It controls the amount of air coming out the jet when the tub is full of water and the motor is on. You should see the difference in swirling water turning it from right to left or the other way around. If yours has a leak then I certainly hope you find the Model number. Good luck.

How long does it take to heat the tub

Make sure that the inline heater has power. It should not take very long to heat since your putting hot water into it anyway. The heater is to keep water warm.
