Question about Maytag Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Maytag ABB2224DEW Freezer works fine, but refrigerator section has to be repeatedly manually defrosted turned off to keep working.

When it doesn't cool the outlet doesn't release cold air even though the compressor is working

Your defrost timer needs replacing, and possibly the defrost heating element. An engineer will carry these as spares.

What you should be looking for is a blocked air flow. The fan in the freezer will push air up to the fridge and cool it off. Look for a dead fan motor in the freezer or a blocked air vent Good luck

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I believe your Adaptive Defrost Control found inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel is failing you. The part number is 61005988 If not this the defrost heater and defrost thermostat may be the next likely cause. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer works great, but refrigeration section stopped working

Check the door seals on fridge and freezer to make sure there are NO leaks.
Try manually adjusting air flap that controls air from freezer to fridge, the flap may be frozen or the actuator that controls the flap may be faulty.

On our maytag plus fridge, the freezer is working fine, however the refridgorator is not keeping cold

You may be having a defrost issue, when ice builds up in the back panel inside the freezer section it causes an air flow restriction to the frig side. You can try letting it defrost and if it starts cooling again it may be the defrost thermostat located on the heater.
