Remove and clean the beater bar, especially under the end caps where fluff and hair builds up a adds brakes to the brush. Your belt may need replacing as they do stretch.

with use the beater bar (thing that turns) gets built up with lint from carpets and other items , this will need to b hand cleaned off every 20 hrs of use especially at the ends where pivot bearings are located also every 50 to 70 hrs of use the drive belt (rubber) for this beater bar will need to be replaced as well

I was told by a previous repair man that there is a fuse in the beater bar that needed to be replaced.

Up to my experience in my Panasonic vacuum cleaner, if the beater bar is not working this could be because the 'Carpet/Floor' selector switch is in the 'OFF' or 'FLOOR' position. In both of these positions the beater bar will not rotate. Move the selector switch to the 'CARPET' position. When in this position the beater bar will rotate once the foot pedal is pressed.

If the selector switch is in the 'CARPET' position and the beater bar is still not rotating it could be that there is something entangled in the beater bar, or the belt is worn or broken.

To check this first unplug the vacuum cleaner

Inspect the beater bar and belts to ensure that there is nothing entangled in the beater bar and that the belts are intact and are not excessively worn. If the belts are excessively worn they may slip resulting in the beater bar not rotating.

The vacuum cleaners often have an overload protection system inside the nozzle, which stops the nozzle motor when the beater bar jams to prevent belt breakage. After clearing any lint build up or jamming you may need to reset the overload protection, by pressing the reset button on the top of the floor nozzle.

Oreck vacuum cleaner stop and burn smell

sounds like hair or string or something like that is wrapped around the beater bar(the long brush under the head that brushes the carpet) keeping it from turning. The belt that drives the bar is getting hot because the beater bar is stuck.

Beater bar stopped working. Not clogged.

Make sure that the belt has not broken and is engaged. Also, if your vacuum cleaner has a "bare floor" setting, make sure that the lever is switched to carpet. That was a "head-slapper" for me once.

Why won't brushes move on Commercial Carpet Pro Vacuum Cleaner

Luvumuch48tj:

Unplug the vacuum and lay it upside down on some newspaper. Remove the sole plate (bottom plate) with a screwdriver. Pull straight up on the brushes (called a beater bar) and remove the beater bar and belt. Remove the end caps and bearings from the ends of the beater bar (it may take a 2-grunt pull, or CAREFULLY pry the end caps and bearings from the beater bar with a screwdriver) Don't stab your hand with the screwdriver... That HURTS! Once you have the bearings and end caps off, remove the hair, carpet fibers and other gunk from the ends of the beater bar, end caps and bearings. Dribble a little rubbing alcohol on the bearings in the end caps and spin the bearings to clean them... keep dribbling alcohol in the bearings until the alcohol draining from the bearings is clear. Dry the bearings until there is no alcohol in them. Now would be a good time to check the opening in the vacuum head and the hose going into the body of the vacuum for clogs. Reinstall the bearings and end caps on the beater bar and reinstall the beater bar with a new belt in the machine. Reinstall the sole plate. Your machine should run like new.

Right out of the box, the vaccuum has been making the grinding noise indicating that something is blocking the beater bar. There is nothing blocking the beater bar, but the clutch piece appears to drop...

I found the fix for the dc 33. Open up the cover to the beater bar. look at the cover. You will see many small triangles. Look very closely for a small rubber strip that runs along the edge where the triangles are. It is kinda hard to see. Once you find it remove it. Now on the vacuum itself there is another strip. This strip is very similar but a little longer. Remove that strip. No more **** noise whalla. The perfect Dyson!

DC 07 beater bar won't turn when on carpet setting. Filter has been washed.

The belt(s) need to be replaced periodically. If the belt is worn, stretched or broken it will not pick up the way it should. You can get DC07 replacement belts here:

Belt replacement

It's a fairly simple job. The belt just loops over the end of the beater bar and motor shaft. Need to take the cover off the beater bar housing to get to it. Most difficult part is stretching the belt while putting the beater bar back in the housing.
