SOURCE: Whirlpool Freezer doesn't freeze?

insulated or not, garages are generally too cold for new energy efficient frigs to operate. ambient temp needs to be above 60 to work efficiently.

SOURCE: Freezer quits working

Solution Found! The problem is when the temperature surrounding the refrigerator in the garage falls to < 45 degrees, the thermostat regulating the refrigerator will not call for the compressor to kick in to provide cooling (it's temperature requirements are being met). Since there is no demand, the compressor will not cycle, which is how the freezer is kept cold, and the freezer eventually warms up to match the refrigerator temperature. Frigidaire makes a "Cold Kit" that I ordered and installed from RepairClinic.com for $22 (Item #: 1037646; Description: Garage kit). It's basically a strip heater that runs off the control power to warm the thermostat and causes the compressor to cycle once to twice a day to keep the freezer frozen. After installation, the refrigerator stays at 40-45 and the freezer stays around 0 degrees.

SOURCE: frigidaire refrigerator leaking water inside refrigerator

There is a plastic panel inside the frigidaire looking at the underside of the freezer inside the refrigerator compartment which holds the thermostate dial and the light fixture. remove the four 1/4 in hex head screws holding the assembly. pull the panel toward the front. you will expose the drain hose connection you can let it dangle from the plug wires or remove the panel completely, I worked with mine in place. look at the back funnel shape drain. just in front of that see a rectangular styroform collar which should be snug fit to match the underside. clean and dry all. there is a divider between the two funnel compartments, mine was separated between the plastic and the styroform. I used kitchen and bath tub caulking to seal the gap. and a little around the rectangle shape that fits to the underside. plug the wire back in if disconnected. reassemble the panel. that may fix it. good luck.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

My convertible freezer/refrigerator model FKCH17F7HWA now runs continually. What can be the problem? It is a Frigidaire.

Either the thermostat is not shutting down properly when unit has reached set temp or the control is stuck in "on" position.

A loss of refrigerant can also cause the issue since the unit never reaches set temps.

Hello Michael - Sounds like the temperature control was accidently turned OFF. When this occurs the temperature control turns off the compressor, but does not disconnect the power to the light bulb or other electronics. Let's try activating the freezer by pressing the UP arrow until display shows "4" or desired setting. Allow 24 hours for temperature to stabilize. For future reference you can lock the control to keep from accidently changing the temperature setting. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

The freezer works but not the refigerator

Hi Jan - Typically if the compressor is running but only the freezer side is not cooling properly than more than likely the unit has a faulty temperature control. Try resetting the unit by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and then turn the unit back on. An experienced service technician may need to further evaluate this issue if it was not resolved with the power reset to assist with the repairs.

Water dispenser does not shut off

That is most likely a dual water control valve stuck open on back of refrigerator near floor. One side feeds ice maker and other side feeds the water dispenser. If the ice maker side began to leak slowly it would create quite a mess of ice flowing over ice maker and freeze every place it could inside the freezer. I have a frigidaire freezer upright model#ffu20f9gw3

Without any additional info, there are a lot of possibilities:
1. Condenser coil (underneath unit) is dirty and clogged.
2. Compressor is failing. (need A/C tech)
3. Metering device is clogged. (need A/C tech)
4. Refrigerant charge is low. (need A/C tech)
5. Door seal is broken (frost will form around door).
6. Defrost heaters are stuck on (replace defrost timer located underneath unit at front).
7. Condenser fan has failed (underneath freezer on back).
8. Evaporator fan (inside fan) has failed (ice will form on cooling coil).

This should get you started...

If this helps you, please select YES to the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Upright Frigidaire freezer with warning buzzer on constantly

If your'e positive the temp is ok then your freezer cold control may be bad. Slowly turn it toward off. If the compressor doesn't cut off before it gets to off, the control is probably bad. Test it here>http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

Temp. control should be on page 4 part number 18 Turn left for warmer or right for colder. If this don't work then the control will need replaced.

Refrigerators used in a garage

Hi pdpup,
Welcome to fixya.com.
I have the solution!
I'm Huuum, at your service

I just got back from our buying groups Sept. appliance show where we saw the answer to all these refrigerators that can not be in the winter garage any more.
Frigidaire just came out with a convertible upright 17cu. ft. freezer/ refrigerator.
All year it is a refrigerator and just before it gets real cold you convert it to a freezer with a touch of a button until spring.
Model # FKCH17F7HW
We should be able to get it soon.
A couple of weeks I was told!
It is not in their web site yet but I saw it in action and I believe that Frigidaire is the only on at the moment that makes this!
You can call them and track the stock and when it will be in your area!

Now that's service,

Thank you for using our service
.
Please remember to give me a solved rating before you sign off!

Huuum
