Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Canon MP780 not printing colours properly.

I have just installed new cartridges and the colour is not coming through properly or in the case of blue (cyan) not at all. I have run cleaning and deep clean on the maintenence about 5+ times and still no improvement. Do you have any ideas? I have tried a second new cyan cartridge and it is the same. Thanks

Thanks komguy for the help I suspected that was the problem. Thanks also for the part number that will make tracking one down easier too.

You will probably need a new printhead, Qy6-0049-000 around $40.00. After all the cleaning you've done already, that hasn't helped, it's time for a printhead.

My mp780 will not print light cyan or magenta...It prints all the dark colours on the print test perfectly but leaves the light ones missing. I have tried a new printhead and it has new canon cartridges....

Most likely the print heads are dirty and need to be clean. The user manual for the Canon should tell you how to do that, but in case you don't have the manual, you can get it here: http://goo.gl/iIylF

New black cartridge installed in MP780 Prints

This simply means that black ink is installed but not CHARGED properly. What you see in a color printing has actually no black color in it but a combination of the hues of blue and yellow and magenta; though it appears black or dark.

Now, use your printer's maintenance utility to do Head Cleaning. To do this, click Start => Settings => open your Printer and Faxes, then right click on your printer's name. Then click on Printing Preferences. Now in the window that opens, click the Maintenance tab and do Head Cleaning. (In some printers, maintenance is called Toolbox)

The printhead is plugged or burned out for the 3EBK. You need a new printhead, QY6-0049-000, around $40.00.

Prints all yellow, with some blue and black, no brown

the problem is very simple the magenta ink the cartridge is over or the head is been blocked from where the magenta ink comes out,
because red colour requires ---yellow plus magenta(pink)----to make it red.and ----dark yellow plus magenta(pink) -------- for brown colour.

Why does it keep running out of color ink, while printing only Black and White?

Whilst you rarely print in colour, its important to know that you should try to print in colour at least once a week. This will reduce the risk of your colour nozzles blocking up.

Many people have gone out to replace their 'hardly used' colour cartridges when they dont work, thinking that they have dried up, when infact its simply blocked nozzles.

If you want to keep your colour nozzles and ink ready to run, just do a full colour alignment every 1-2 weeks. Minimal ink usage there and you keep your Canon MP780 running well!

Some colours not printing

I bet you are using non genuine ink, the MP780 will not put up with that ink, you will need a new printhead and maybe a purge unit. Take the machine to your ink supplier and get him to fix it as he supplied the ink
