What kind of files are those, photos, videos or music? If these files are deleted from the SD card, you can insert it to your computer with a card reader. On your computer you should run a data recovery program. The tool will scan your SD card and then show you files it finds. Choose the files you want and hit the "Recovery" button to start the process.

If you have a Macintosh, feel free to use this Data Recovery app.

The SD card shown in my computer has "empty file" but it does have pics in it if used in the digital camera. what should i do?

I have had success with this memory card recovery software called asoftech data recovery... Download the program

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

If i format my sd card what are the drawbacks?

nothing apart from having no way of retrieving what you delete. You could copy your file off the SD card to your computer and then format the SD card. That way you have the benefits of formatting but your files are still somewhere just incase!

Good Luck :D

I need to recover accidently erased image files from my sd card for my Canon S2-IS camera

First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download this photo recovery software

Install and open the photo recovery software, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

Retrieving file

There are companies that claim to be able to retrieve deleted files on mem cards, if their space has not been written over by other pics taken sense, or a mem card FORMAT. Google it.

Your better approach may be to try to recover the files showing 3Meg size on your computer download. Sounds like mem card quit working correctly after first 100 photoes. Was this a name brand SD card like San Disk or Panasonic? Beware of off brand junk sold on ebay or other sites CHEAP. They are designed to report back the size they claim to be, but are 1/2 size capacity or less in reality. You never know until you need your photos. The other thing is SD cards fail and are never a good as a BackUp source for files. For file xfers only in general.

Good lesson for all is to be sure all your pics show up on your computer before deleting on camera.
