the camera really goes on standby when you turn on the camera but you wont use it for a couple of minutes. but it should come alive once you press the camera button or any keys. if thats not happening, it may have been stuck there (if there are many programs open at the same time, its going to hang) so just powercycling the phone (turn off, remove battery, simcard, memory card) leave it like that for 2mins, put everything back in. if after turning it on, the camera still on standby, you may need to take to out for repair since there's no safe software out there i will recommend to reset the phone, better safe than sorry right =)
