Hi, Paulisa,
It depends which head is fitted to your tripod, but in the illustration from Bescor themselves, it appears to be a pan-and-tilt head. Level with the tilt lever are apparently several adjusting screws - without the camera on board, in case of accidents (done it myself, and it's not a good feeling !), tighten all of these and see if the head will move in any direction. If it does, then the head has issues and should be returned.
If the head cannot be moved, then just experiment until you find out which adjuster affects movement in each plane - my guess is that it may be the lever to the left hand side of the head (not the one at the base, which probably affects movement in a horizontal plane).
When you are sure that you have sussed it, try again carefully with the camera attached - if there is still unwanted movement, then the head needs adjustment.

Try using manual focus - if the autofocus won't work, because of low light, then you can't take pictures.

Looking for directions on using the canon RC6 remote..(camera settings) ..I have a 5D Mark II thank you

Press the [AF-DRIVE] button and select the self-timer mode. Point the remote controller toward the camera and press the button.

Full details are in the "Remote Control Shooting" section of the camera manual (page 102 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I have a Canon battery grip for my Canon EOS 300D but have no manual to tell me how to use it as the camera is 2nd hand, can i get a manulal or download one from anywhere

I understand there isn't a manual, just a quick how-to guide. Here's some basic use info from a review
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/reviews/canon-bg-e6-battery-grip-review.aspx

The Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip is designed specifically for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II as shown above with a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens mounted. To get the Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip into the position shown, the LP-E6 Battery is removed from the 5D II and the battery door detaches. The BG-E6 slides up into the battery compartment and locks into place via the tripod socket screw seen on the BG-E6 just below the lens in the above image. The BG-E6 provides its own tripod adapter threads - this functionality is not lost.

The Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip holds two Canon LP-E6 Batteries that deliver double the number of shots or video time from the 5D II. Alternatively, use 6 AA batteries in the included Canon BGM-E6 Battery Magazine shown below.

Missing top plate that fits in on top of tripod with the screw that goes into camera model TH 770.

Try www.TripodQuickRelease.com for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I've seen. Because your tripod is not supported by the manufacturer; parts lists and pars are not available, you should measure the opening and see what other brand quick releases will work paying attention to the shape and locking mechanism. Otherwise just get another tripod.

How do you take a picture a night of christmas lights

Shots like this are tough to get with a point and shoot camera.

The best way is to set the exposure around 1/15 or lower, if you can adjust ISO use the highest ISO setting the camera will allow. You will need to hold the camera very still, so a tripod or other solid object to steady the camera with will help lots. Sometimes pushing the shutter moves the camera, so try using the self timer. A tripod with the self timer is the best way to go, and experiment with different shutter speeds. Start with the longest the camera has and go up.

You can also try the flash, but the flash modes that really work aren't available unless you get an SLR.
