How do I disassemble a Dyson DC26 Carbon Fibre Turbine Head (920545-02)?

Hi Kristian, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's very unlikely that an internal component would have broken after the blockage was removed. Instead, it's worth checking that the plunger is in the correct position. If it's pushed inwards, this will shut off the brush bar, so make sure it's pulled out:

disassemble-dyson-dc26-carbon-fibre-xjczme1b25opy5c2wdvfnwhk-4-0.jpg

If the plunger won't stay in the out position when you switch on your vacuum, this indicates there may still be a blockage within the Turbine head which needs to be cleared.

This should resolve the issue, but if you find it doesn't help, please get in touch so our experts can provide further assistance. Please be aware that dismantling the Turbine head any further than is shown in the User guide can void your Dyson warranty, meaning future replacement parts or repairs could be chargeable.

You can reach our experts by calling the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My bristles wont spin

Hi Maggie,
Alec from VacuumSpot here. There are 3 reasons why the brushes might stop.
The first and easiest is to check if the turbo head is set to carpet - there is a selector on the side that also acts as a bit of a filter. It's an obvious one but sometimes overlooked.
The second and cause is also easy to fix is if your filters are worn or dirty. You wouldn't notice a marginal drop in suction from day to day but over a year the filters do reduce in performance. Once they wear (I know they are meant to be lifetime but they are not) they just need to be replaced. For the best performance just buy new DC11 filters every couple of years they are cheap and it's worth it.
The other thing can be that the roller brush is in need of a good clean. Remove the base plate and pull the rollers out to either side, you will find they simply slip off the shaft with a bit of effort. Clean inside the brushes and also the shaft. Normally you will find a bunch of hair and fluff inside which can slow the roller down.
If you clean this and also make sure you have clean filters and the roller still doesn't spin unfortunately the bearings in the head are wearing and the head needs to be replaced as Dyson hides the bearings in a sealed casing forcing you to replace rather than repair.
I hope this helps you out.
Regards
Alec

I have a DC07 which is not picking up very well. I've cleaned the pre motor filter, was not aware of the post motor and will check. However, do the Dyson brush rollers wear to the point of not picking up...

Hi The filter is only part of the cleaning process with a Dyson.

I would suggest you get a 2 p peice and unscrew the plastic screws on the base. You will likely find that this area has clogged up. Clean this area out and put soleplate back on.

Also check your u bend and at the side of the Dyson there is a a piece called the valve carriage which also comes off.

You can put your filters, u bend and valve carriage release in the washing machine.

The turbine head on my dc08 will not turn although there seems to be lots of suction

The dyson have a bit of an achilles heel with their turbine heads. Half the time you can resurect them by simply removing the baseplate and pulling of the rollers and emptying out all the **** that seems to accumulate inside the brush roller. The other half of the time that same dirt has worked its way to the centre part that holds the rollers, this is where the bearing is and unfortunately there is no way to access the bearing to change it. Not the best design really. If you clean the inside of the rollers very regularly you will not have this problem but who remembers to do that kind of maintenance often enough.
If you need to buy a turbine head to replace a broken one try vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums if you are in Australia.
Hope this helps you.

No suction - Dyson vacuum

Hi If the Dyson is throwing out dirt at the back, it could be three possibilities:
1) The main floor head suction channel is blocked. Check the sole plate where the beater bar is, or if you have a cylinder/pull along model check the floor heads and main extension pipes.
2) Check all the inspection tubes especially the bottom part where the main handle hose is. Also check the filters are clean as well as the Cyclone shroud honeycombs are completely unclogged. Use of the upholstery brush is ideal for dust removal on the cyclones.
3) Check the main inspection areas on the Dyson as sometimes a back log of clogged dirt can get stuck. Also check the dust channel points when then bin is taken out.
Hope all this helps!

Dyson o7 animal pick up problems

Hi.

If your machine is A few years old it may need new brush roller fitted.

To check roller for wear lie machine on the floor & pull back head end as if vaccuming carpet.

Now get A rule or straight edge hold this over brush roller & sole plate oppening.

Now rotate brush slowly by hand the bristles of the brush should just kiss the edge of rule. If ther is a gap you will need toreplace the roller.

Clogged filter

I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.
