I have a Samsung 40" LED tv that has sound but no picture. You can see an image if you shine a flashlight on the screen. I see no backlights when I take off the back.

Hi!

Check the backlight circuit, but first, check the power supply of the blacklight circuit, does it feed the backlight circuit or not. If not, it's the power supply circuit, if yes, check the backlight circuit itself, and if it works, check the backlight themselves, the led. Good luck,

Serge.

I have a DOD Mixer console, model 1642. It is giving me a 60 cycle hum. When I turn on the board all of the LED light max out. I have turned it on and off a couple of times to see if I can get it to...

I had this problem when I was attaching a "custom" power supply (an ATX power supply) to my DOD 1642 (circa 1992, revived in April 2012). I had a massive buzz and every LED was totally lit up. The problem ended up being a grounding issue.

If you're using the stock power supply, make sure the ground is attached firmly both at the three-prong connector at the wall as well as the 7-DIN connector on the back of the board. You may want to take an OHM meter and make sure the grounding pins are all in contact throughout the power supply: With everything unplugged from wall power and the board, test from either (or both) of the DIN pins to the ground prong of power plug (on the adapter NOT THE WALL). Then, test for connectivity between the two grounding pins.

If you're using a custom power supply like me, make sure you're grounding to a proper and valid ground. I ended up attaching my ground to three of the ATX grounding pins and the hum went away. My 20 year old mixer is alive and well now.

Can not power on and there is a green light flashing

You can reset the video board by holding Vol_+ and Channel - (or Vol - and Ch +) and pluging the TV in the wall and powering it on. It will run a reset cycle. It temporarily fixes this issue in most cases on most 32" sharp aquos LCD's. If this does not work, try downloading the service manual for this TV and go to the troubleshooting section. Most likely you have a power supply issue or a bad board, this can only be diagnosed by a technician, if your qualified to dive in we can start taking the set apart and start testing boards, if not I advise you to call a tech to help, that way if something breaks it's not your fault and a repair always comes with a Warranty. Most places will give you an estimate so you can decide if the repair costs out weight the costs of a new set.

My hp pavilion m7170n keeps shutting off randomly, is this a power supply problem?

You are going to have to test several things when trying to diagnose the problem.

1) It could be *********** Board. Most computer shops will have a test cpu or each particular motherboard cpu style, this allows them to test your CPU and Mother Board.

2) Yes, It could be your power supply. Power supplies do go out randomly, normally a common problem is people forget to upgrade the power supply when they upgrade, say, a video card. Depending on the size of the power consumption of the new hardware the person would need to upgrade the power supply, other wise they end up having the same problem.

3) Have you upgraded your RAM lately? If so then double check to be sure *********** Board can handle it, otherwise it will reset like it is.

Well I hope this helps.

First, Make sure you by the right motherboard screws to lift the board from the case or youll ground out and blow the power suply or the mainboard or both.

You can buy power supply testers at most computer stores for around 13 to 20 bucks and test the power supply.

The one i use for work tests the power supply and the board and shows the voltage output, it was $16.

If both test good, then try connecting everything first and then connect the power supply. Make sure the Pins for the reset and power swithc are connected correctly.

Do you know the processor to be good?

Also try reseating the RAM in the slots on the mainboard, check that the metal pins for the processor arent bent underneath.

Some boards have the wide connector and the small four pin connector and some only have just the wide one depending on the its power requirments. make sure both are connected if it requires both.

Make sure the BIOS battery isnt dead. its on the Mainboard and looks like a watch battery. Pop it off and stick your tongue on it and see if you taste a charge ( you know, like with the old 9v rectangle batteries when we where kids)

You may just have a bad board or not a power full enough power suply for that board. It could als be that.

I would reccomend you get a power supply tester. I have one that was $16 and has both the 20/24 pin and the 4 pin Mobo tester for the power supply and it will test the power supply and the it will test through the mother board to show if its getting a solid 12 volts of power. It also has a floppy and a sata and the 4 pin tester for the drives and Mobo and is worth the money. Heres the one i got at a local ma and pop store in San Antonio Texas. You should be able to buy similar at any tech store. good luck.
