SOURCE: salt for DDW1805 Danby

I use ordinary household water softener salt crystals, not pellets, or table salt. The table salt often is not as refined as softener crystals, and can damage the dishwasher's softener in time. Also, the water softener salt comes in a large bag (around 25-50 lbs) for about $6 US.

SOURCE: No salt leaving Culligan softener during regen

It sounds like your salt in your salt compartment is stuck. Poor about a couple of gallons of hot water on top of your salt and see if that will break it up and fall down to the bottom of your salt container. Then regenerate your softener after about 3 hours have gone by. You should be back in business.

SOURCE: Kinetico Water Softening Unit has brine tank drainage problem

This sounds like the resin cylinder is perforated or connections at the top are leaking. The brine tank should only have a little water in the bottom - if it is full of water (maybe even up to the overflow?) then you will need to replace the resin cylinder or fix a leaky connection to it.

Is the water in the brine tank 'rusty'?

Aqua Systems water softener isn't using salt when it regenerates. Water isn't being softened. Have manually regenerated three times -- goes through the cycle but water seems to be unchanged. Any troub

check that the small hose to the pickup in the salt tank is not blocked or loose allowing air into the unit rather than the salt water. IT runs on a venturi effect so any air leaks will not allow the water to be picked up. Download the operating manual for the unit as it has a detailed operation including fault finding and over hauling of the unit.

Water Softener full of water, not draining, or using salt

How old is the system ? Where does the system drain to ? If this is the softener you have (seems awful large for a household) it is probably the injector/nozzle assembly. I have attached a manual to help you. A restriction in the drain line could also be the problem. Fleck 2850s

My water softener emptied im not sure how long it was empty for but I dont think it was too long I filled it with salt and now it doesnt work. It still regenerates but im getting hard water still any...

Do you mean the salt tank was empty? If so fill salt tank half way wait about 6 hrs for brine to develop. Manually regenerate softener 2x within 24 hrs. When the salt runs out the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals. It takes at least 2 regeneration cycles back to back to completely restore soft water. Also the hot water will take some time to get soft. It will help to flush water heater after cold water is consistently soft.
I hope this helps,

Cullihan water softener-No water in tank-Orange water in house-Salt level measured 3 months ago, has remained the same. ( no salt used ) Repair man claims to have fixed the timer 45 days ago.

the way a water softener is set by , goes off the hardness of the water and how much water you use. Doing a manual cycle will show you if its at least working or not. If nothing happens when you do a manual cycle then you should call back the repair man and have him look at again. The float might be stuck in the brine tank, you can try emptying the salt and cleaning the salt tank out side with a hose, spray water in to the float and make sure is clean and free . Add salt with 3 gallons of water and do a manual cycle. If this still doesn't work then it could be a stuck valve inside the water softener that is stuck closed.

Where do i put the salt in my hotpoint dishwasher ?

If you don't put salt in the appliance then the regeneration crystals will clump together over time and solidify. This will cause a restriction in the softener unit.
If you stopped using it and then started again you may find that the impurities caught by the crystals have simply found their way into the appliance.
You can set the softener to be at minimum setting if you are in a soft water area.

The salt isn't used to soften the water, it's used to clean the crystals in the water softener unit.
Why Do I Need to Use Salt in my Dishwasher?
Salt is needed to ensure that your dishwasher's in-built water softener gives an optimum performance. You will especially need to use dishwasher specific salt if you live in a hard water area. You can purchase one of our Aqua test strips (part number 180876) to determine the hardness of your water from our parts and accessories store or call us on 08448 225 225 .

Manually drain the floor of the machine, put in salt, and check out.
open the salt container at the bottom, and it will be full up with water, and it really will smell bad. clean it and add salt near to 1kg. then run run a prewash cycle and then check out does the salt error is coming up.if yes then more salt needs to be added.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively.thank you for using fixya

Hello, I would like to help with your dilemma. First, adding a Liquid or Powder Softening agent to the Wash or Rinse Cycle of a Washing Machine when using extremely Hard Water as the source is trying to treat the symptom and not fix the cause. These pre-packaged Softening agents are filled with Salts that attempt to mix with the Hard Water Minerals and Neutralize them so the soaps can saturate the water and supposedly clean the clothes more effectively. However, the Hard Water Minerals are still trapped in the water supply with these Salts because they are not removed. And, the manufacturers of these Salt Based Softening Agents have no idea of what level of Hardness (Calcium and Magnesium Carbonates) exist from City to City, State to State, or in private Well water supplies. So, if they provide 200 parts per million of Salts in their package, but the Water Hardness is 600 parts per million of Calcium and Magnesium Carbonates, there is no way the Salts will be effective. With "Traditional" Whole House Water Softening, the Water Treatment Appliance actually removes the Hard Water Minerals before the water is distributed to the entire home or business, then allowing the Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Water Heater, Showers, Bathtubs, and other water bearing appliances to perform their tasks as specified by their manufacturer. These Water Softeners typically attach to the main water line of the entire home or business, and virtually exchange equal amounts of Salt for equal amounts of Hardness regardless of the incoming hardness rating. Then, as the total capacity of the Softener becomes exhausted for the batch of water it has treated, the Control Valve automatically Regenerates the system with a new batch of Salt-Softened Water to use in the home or business. And, when you treat the water for the entire home, you reap the benefits of Protecting ALL of the Plumbing, Fixtures, Faucets, Valves, Appliances, and other household items from Scale and Hard Water Destruction. Visit our Web Site for more information: www.puresafe.com Thanks and Hope this helps. Victor Kernes
