My PC is not recognizing Aluratek AHDUB250 External hard drive

I am running Vista. I was able to access the hard drive before. For the past few days, the Hard drive is not showing in Windows explorer. The light on the Hard-drive is on. I installed the latest drivers from Aluratek's website and is still not working. I am also having the same issues with my laptop running XP also.

Did you check it connect properly on USB? how about to try it to run in another PC maybe it works there. If not then you should buy a new one.

Does the drive have lights on it, if so, what do they look like and do they come on?

My external hard drive is corrupt, i want my data back.

Dear,
Data can be recover but the drive must be accessible by OS. As you write windows vista says drive is not accessible and that the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.Do one thing try the same drive at another PC. If it run on that PC copy the data to that PC. Now format the drive and paste the same data back to your drive. But, if same thing happend then there are chances of fault in the driveand for this you shuld visit to the service cetre but, they are not responsible for the data.

A drive making noise suggests that something physical has gone wrong.  If something happened so that the OS simply can't access your data and there not too much physical damage to the disk, try one of those recovery programs, but one that doesn't attempt to fix the disk, only access the data

Can't access my lacie external hard drive

I would first plug it in to a different PC, this will tell you if the problem is the Lacie or Windows Vista.
if it works on a different PC then remove it from Device manager or go to the Lacie website for Vista updates.

If it does not work on a different PC then there are 3 possibilities
1. the drive got cleared data lost
2. the enclosure is bad (I would bet on this)
3. the drive is bad

purchase a USB enclosure, remove the drive and install it in the new enclosure plug in and test.

Hope this helps
thanks for rating
