2006 water heater. Is it only run on gas. How do i turn it on.

If it is a regular gas hot water heater You need to turn the knob on the gas valve to pilot. Depress and hold the knob down. while doing that press the green button on the side of the valve . you may have to repeat that a few times. that button makes a spark to light the pilot. You need to hold the knob down for about a minute more to let the thermocouple heat up and signal the gas valve that it has a flame. release the knob . if the pilot flame stays on ,turn the knob back to the on position. If that does not work repeat if still not working give more info. Make and model of heater

Ignition problem

Sometime the batteries in the drawer fade (yes even new ones). I am asking, is that after the flow initially stops, the Automatic Start will not fire up when there is a demand for hot water (Is this what you meant when you say "The water is turned off" and "Then on again". Check the batteries for being the right way around (I Have installed them 1/2 forward and 1/2 back ward as a set, the one cancelled the other one out....my Bad....Ooops) The battery should be only needed if the power fails, but not sure about this model. Does the Owners manual say anything about no hot water? IF that was tried, you may need to call the heating / cooling techs that are familiar with this unit.

You may have instant hots for the sinks, a small heater for each location which won't be on the tub. If there is a flame fail the hot water heater is not working. Check the flame sensor and ignitor.

I have Marey nat.gas.water heater (3 years old) now the flame goes on for a second and goes off ,pezo try to restarted but wont go back on ,any solutions ?? many thanks

Sounds like your thermocouple is shot. It's that

little tube that the pilot light heats up.I am

assuming that you have started this heater

before. The thermocouple has to stay a certain

temperature to keep the gas flowing. You can buy

universal thermocouple kits at your local

hardware store.Make sure gas is turned

off.Loosen the coupling nut on the outside of

the tank then remove the tin and remove the

heating part. The whole thing is a small 1/8

tube.Bend new one like the old one and put it

back in place. If the kit has yellow Teflon tape

wrap the threads on the coupling and

tighten.Turn the gas back on and test for leaks

with soapy water. Thanks for choosing FixYa.com.

I always add this for your information. If this

is not the solution that you are looking for

please re post because when we pick a question

Pilot don't stay lit after the gas control knob is release.

Hi,
The thermocouple is bad and you will have to replace it...
The thermocouple is the thing that sticks up in the flame to sense that the flame is on... if it goes bad the pilot flame will not stay lit when you release the button...

It has soot build up and doesnt get hot

the soot build up is evidence of another problem. Your fuel air ration is messed up. Is it possible you are at a higher altitude than the water heater was set for? When a water heater is installed at an altitude higher than 2,000' the manifold pressure on the gas valve has to be turned down. if that isn't done your wh will overfire and burn a rich sooty flame. You would expect to see a yellow flame rather than the ideal blue flame with yellow tips.

If this sounds like your problem then you need a proffessional to service the wh and reset the manifold pressure to the value in the owners manual for the appropriate altitude.

Bosch 1600h NG not heating water hot enough

it sounds to me like the dip tube has failed. this is a plastic tube that is inside the water heater on the cold side. It is designed to put the incoming cold water at the bottem of the tank allowing heated water out at the top. when this tube deteriorates the cold water mixes at the top of the tank instead of the bottom. a new dip tube is about 5 bucks but must be inserted on the cold side by someone with plumbing experience.
