Factory setting is usually the midway point between high & low number. Sometimes it is specifically marked on the dial with a red line or a different color. Of course, this is only the general setting. Every machine is different (especially after use) so this setting needs to be tweaked. Even different kinds of fabric will require a tension tweak. The tension is correct when both threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

How to tighten top thread when it bubbles on bottom of fabric for a Janome Memory Craft 3500 .Book instructions do not help.

there is a manual pdf down load from manualslib.com that explains where the thread tensioner is and how to adjust page 17 of 46 pages
it shows how to thread the machine correctly
the tensioner is a wheel at the top of the machine that turns 0- 6 notches to the left or 0- 6 notches to the right ( 12 possible tensions)
download the manual( free) as it explains probably better than the user manual
it is for your machine
I found it by going google and typing in--how to adjust thread tension on a janome memory craft 3500 and found that manualslib site

My Janome memory craft 4800 embroidery stitches are appearing on the bottom of fabric rather than the top. can anyone help?

Try to tighten the top thread tension. Make sure the thread is going through the tension disc.

Janome MC 3000 top thread tension is very loose

Normally that happens when your fabric is too thick and is lifting the presser foot, when the thread did not get between the tension disks when you threaded it. (usually because it was threaded with the foot down) Or because the tension knob was turned by a kid that was playing with your machine. It should be at number 4 to 6. Either way, unthread it completely and rethread it and see what happens.

Did you thread the top of the machine with the presser foot up? See: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22521551 Top tension should be set probably about 3 or 4. You know the thread is in the tension when you can't pull the needle thread through the eye easily when the presser foot is down, but can do it when it's up.

How to thread janome memory craft 3000

I was wondering if there was a threading guide on the machine itself with number steps impressed into the white cover. They are not very obvious but may help. Also, try you-tube for a bit more information; good luck
