Thanks for your answer. The exploded views were a great help. I replaced the heating element today and found that the motor that drives the fan in the middle of the heating element was loose and put the fan in a bind. This was tightened from the element side. This was probably the root cause problem. The over works now but is 50 degrees lower than indicated when the oven Is supposed to be to temperature. Is there an adjustment for this? Thanks.

My test thermometer might be off. I'll get a new one and retest it tomorrow. It's off by 35 degrees if you run it a bit longer then when it reads "oven ready".

At my Web site here, I have a video showing you how to remove a typical over the range microwave's grille and control panel assembly in about 5 minutes.

Then you can find and refer to the technical sheet for this model found hidden behind the controller or grille or get it online here.

Next, you'll need to take the oven down from its mount. The installation instructions are a must, and if for some reason you don't still have them, you can download them here.

You can buy GE parts and find helpful exploded views and parts lists by entering your full model number here.

On exploded view diagram 5, "Interior Parts (1) Parts" shows the convection parts, including the heating element, here called a "heater sheath" at ref. # 3019. It is part number WB44X10046 and again, you can get it from the Pros here.

If you have other questions, please e-mail me here with your full model number as shown on the tag in or on the oven, and your detailed symptoms.

7 yr old unit emitting burning smell. Everything still works. Is it worth trying to get repaired or just buy a new one.

is the burning smell just when you use the convection oven or when you use the microwave , reason I ask is that if its only coming from the convection oven then chances are you have something melted on the heat elements , this can be cleaned off with a dry brillo pad

My GE Profile JVM1790 convection microwave has issue. Was using the convection portion when a small spark and flame appeared and then went out and soot and smoke was all inside and now will not heat up...

Yep, that sounds very much like the heating element burned out. It happens. You should be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer's website... or there may be a list of repair centers in the manual - pick one & try to order the heating element through them.

My microwave runs like normal but doesnt heat. is there a heatin element or something i could replace?

Hi

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.
Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.
