Flame volume does not change much from low to high setting; very low heat; have changed gas tanks but no difference; new grill


Smokers use much lower levels of heat to do the job, if you have a friend with a smoker ask their advise. I do turkeys and fish in my smoker and between 225 and 275 degrees is normal. The smokers do the job over a long period of time as opposed to a grill, which can have temperatures for a steak of around 500. Also your manual will give you guidence as to appropriate temperatures, if you have a question as to the temperature indicator (if equipped) add a "standalone" thermometer under the hood.

I need instructions for a viking gas grill...I have the smoker insert and need to know how to use the grill to smoke a round roast or tenderloin.


In order to use the smoker box, remove the last set of porcelain grids and flavor generator plate on the right hand side of the grill. Set the smoker box in theopening so that the front and rear tabs rest on the grill frame.

Always soak the chips in water prior to putting them into the box. Use the "HIGH" position to start the chips smoking, then reduce the heat to a lower level to prevent them from drying out and flaming. If the wood chips do flame up, add a small amount of water to extinguish the flame. Use
caution when adding water to a hot box to avoid steam burns. This tray may also be filled with water to produce steam.

Whether smoking or steaming, the grill should remain closed as much as possible to maximize the effect. During extended roasting periods, it is normal to add fresh wood chips and water to the box several times. Limit the amount of times the canopy is opened-each peek adds about 15 minutes to the cooking time.

Wait until Smoker Box totally cools before trying to remove it.

When smoker is turned on and temp. and time is set it pops the outlet its plugged into


There's a short circuit somewhere in the wiring of the smoker. If you just recently purchased it within the last 30 days, return to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. If it's a lot older than that, check what wiring you can access to see if one of the wires has been burned by the smoker.

brand of the smoker is irrelevant, weight of meat is, at about 72centigrade you need about 25 to 30min per pound (about 1h per kg) plus about 10min to neatly finish it off.

if you put water in smoker, then time need to be extended a bit, best way is say you have 4lb chook, after 2hrs, use skewer and if it is going easy into the flesh and through, it meant that meat is cooked nicely, if it is hard, you need to set it up another 20 to 30min. experience will tell you more, every cooker is bit different and therefore only general time and recipy can be provided.

Will not heat


You have a faulty wire or bad heating element, I will bet that it is a wire broken or burned apart. Open the unit and check the wiring from the case to the element and check if it is not severed or burned apart.

My electric smokers heating element does not get hot-after only about 20 uses-Any suggestions-The manufacturer said they would need to send me a new box for $199-Seems rediculus this cant be fixed?


I just had the same issue and almost had a Thanksgiving disaster! Try unplugging the connection between the smoker and control pad. mine looked like it was on, i could set the temp, time and get a reading of temp, but it must not have been sending the 'heat' command. also, bass pro has thios on sale tomorrow for 129
