Question about Miller Welding Tools
Problem is after running for about five or six minutes engine begins shutting down with back firing and then quits. Cannot restart except after waiting for a minute then restarts and runs fine for about a minutes then shuts down, sputteter sputter, cough, backfire stops. This can go on and on over and over. When it is running top speed will weld and generate fine...just can't keep motor running. Why?This can go on and on over and over. When it is running top speed will weld and generate fine...just can't keep motor running. Why? I am original owner. Machine has been lightly used over the past several years. Machine has been garage kept.
Have you stripped and cleaned out carburettor?

This sounds like overheating. These small generators don't have overheating protection, but if a low oil pressure or low oil level is present it may be the reason for stopping.
Check the oil level in the starting conditions and again when it stops. It may become under the "stop" level and after some time the precipitated oil has reached the "start" level. The same may be with oil viscosity and oil pressure.
Try to add some oil or change the oil with bigger viscosity.
