SOURCE: My old Bernina 1130 has never given me trouble,

If you have a drop feed mechanism make sure you have not dropped the teeth down by mistake, make sure you have enough pressure on the foot, remember you should not be able to pull the fabric through by hand if the teeth are up

On my Bernina 1130, the shaft that the sewing needle is connected to is frozen in up position & won't go down the thread the bobbin.

Does your 1130 have a basting stitch (I believe it does)? If so, the basting stitch is hung up. A technician can free it up very quickly. However, you can also do it yourself. Sorry, the instructions in writing would be difficult so I'm going to recommend you join Yahoo group "BerninaThirtySomethings" You will need a yahoo email account and then search for the group and request to join. There are documents in the files section that have very elaborate pictures and directions on how to do this yourself. It appears pretty simple once you know what you're looking for.

FWIW, Bernina afficionados recommend running the basting stitch once a month to keep it working (ha, I never do it either and did end up having a technician free it for me). Now that I have the instructions, I'll try it myself the next time it happens.

Gummed up baste stitch finger on bernina 1130. how can I fix it?

If you can join the Yahoo group "BerninaThirtySomethings," there are a lot of conversations there and documents that explain how to fix the stuck basting stitch. It is rather difficult to explain so that would be the best source. (You will need a Yahoo email account to join the group.) A Bernina technician can release that for you.

Bernina 1130: Is it possible to override default factory settings for stitch length. I want to change from 2 to 3

A Bernina technician can probably do that for you. However, it's probably not something you can do yourself.

My Bernina 1130 has zig zag problems. I have to turn my machine on for 10 minutes before it will even sew. When I sew straight it will skip a few stitches every inch or so. Now it will not zig zag mo

here are some suggestions
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used
Choose a needle to suit the thread & fabric
4. The foot not attached correctly
Check & attach correctly

I really recommend having the sewing machine checked to
see if there is a internal problem, since you have to wait 10 minutes
before sewing & the problem with the zig zag & looping.

My Bernina 1130 will not stitch anything but a straight stitch. Everything will work fine for about 20 minutes, then almost everything will quit working. Even the backstitch quits. The needle position...

Only sew for 20 min at a time... just kidding.

It could be a lot off stuff, could be a bit price to fix aswell.
The fisrt thing that comes to my mind is a bad S-print (mother board). This will need to be removed from the machine and mailed to bernina of america for repair. May be around $350 or so and about 3 weeks.
That is just a guess with the info you gave. It could also be a bound up slide block or bad stepmotors.
Most deffinitly will need to bring this to a bernina trained teck.
That is a great machine. If you like it then I say it is well worth the repair.
Hope this helps.

Stitch is not straight

When was the last time your machine had a routine cleaning and adjustment? It sounds as though you've got "play" in the mechanism that needs to be tightened by a sewing machine mechanic.

Bernina 1130 feed dogs won't feed fabric

On a Bernina 1130 the power on-off knob and the feed dog raise and lower knob look similar and are next to each other on the end of the machine, making it easy to lower the dog assembly entirely, without realizing it. Make sure you didn't accidentally lower the entire feed dog assembly by turning the feed dog knob: you can tell as you turn it if the dogs are up or down. On the Bernina 1130 the knob, like the power should be in the horizontal position to be working both feed and power.
