Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
By experience it's the bearings on the shaft. The old seal leaks allowing water from the drum onto the bearings which eventually drys them out. The new replacement seal works better. It's do able but time consuming. approx. 5 hrs. Instead of posting the entire process, go on "Youtube" and search for your model. Cost of parts and bearing tool, $150. To remove the drum, I use a 21"- 2"X 4" on the inside of the top of the drum and a scissor jack to lift it off of the shaft. It's all on 'Youtube". Just to let you know, Maytag wants to sell you the whole drum and shaft together, $500. I would advise you to purchase the bearing tool with the kit. It makes life a lot easier. Purchase both from your local parts supplier.
