Check the "Feed Switch" button on the control panel (below the ON/OFF button) to be sure the green light at the back of the picture is lit. If not, try pushing the button and then printing again. It worked for me and it was so simple!

I have the same unit. There are many issues with it. First when you install the software you may need to add something to the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\HP Officejet 7400 series\PrinterDriverData and create Key HPDJEnableSecondTray as DWORD with Value of 1
Once you've done this here is the biggest issue and one I've found to fix this issue PERIOD.
You need to go to your Printer Driver then to Properties of it then Device Settings Tab - you will see Form to Tray Assignment in the list and like 5 options, you have to make all but the one you want to NOT AVAILABLE. Example mine is set to Upper than Lower (Letter) all the rest are set to NOT AVAILABLE. Problem solved.

Goto the job status and select the print job that is waiting.. To the right, select details and select the paper size you want. Identify the job because you will want to make sure the settings in that document are set to the correct paper size and type.

I was having the same issue with premium paper. It wouldn't take it, but it did okay with paper of less quality because it was rougher. Here is my solution.
Unplug your printer and remove the paper feeder tray. Flip the printer on its side and underneath, you will see a rubber piece that feeds the paper through the machine. Wipe it down thoroughly with rubbing alcohol on a cotton disc or ball. You should get a bunch of brownish grime coming off on the little rubber dealy. Blow dry, plug in, and you're good to go. Just did big print job to test. Good luck!

The problem is normally on the exit sensor.Please check the exit sensor if its in the right possition.If the exit sensor is in the right position,also check the registration sensor if its sitting in the right position.Normally the problem is that the sensors (either the 'exit ' or 'registration' sensors) will be not in their correct position.If the two sensors are ok,there should be a small paper lleft in the machine
