Hi Joyce Harrington, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

What make and model device? I assume you're not asking about a PC laptop despite your categorization.

WHEN I TURN ON THE HUMIDISTAT the water line going into the filter just starts gushing!is this the selenoid?

first its important to understand how humidifiers work ,

they work by using a pressurized source of water (prefer demineralized) that enters a chamber that has a device that wicks the water up into it , then a fan induces a draft across it , this produces evaporation of the water into the air flow , this air is then ducted into the air handler for the structure (home?)
now that being said the water chamber needs constant refilling due to evaporation of water from air flow , most times this is handled from a solenoid valve that is basically an electric operated valve , and yes it's logical that it could be tied to a humidistat for demand use only .

also this type of humidifier requires frequent cleaning or it may back up and spill water in the wrong places ,especially if there isn't a demineralizing filter on water line , as the minerals that naturally occur in water don't evaporate and get left inside the chamber , making less and less room for new water to be added

Dehumidifer runs, but does not collect water. Just started this recently. We use it in the basement. Not too old. It's a Whirlpool Accudry.

There are many reasons why a dehumidifier willnot work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrongwith their dehumidifier

I have the unit listed below and I have an amber button on the unit that keeps on flashing (reset button). I've try to push the button in and reset it but nothing happens... The unit also dos not have any...

Not having any water in the reservoir is more than likely the problem. Has someone turned off the water supply line valve to the humidifier? Does the inline, water sediment filter need cleaning or replacing? The real question is, why did the water supply to the humidifier stop? Troubleshoot that problem based on the questions asked above and you'll solve the problem.

Hope this helped you solve the problem.

I have an HM 495, the past 4 days it has been working fine. Now there is no mist coming out and it seems to be spilling water out of the back of the base. What is the problem? I have not been using warm or...

When this happened to me, I took the tank into the bathroom to look at the bottom and then I tried to turn the knob and it wasn't all the way tight. After I tightened it, I put it back on the base and the mist started right away.

The digital readout does not go past the mid 20s even if I have the setting on 3. Also, water spill all around the humidifier making the floor wet.

MAke sure you clean your sensor, it appears that it\s cover with scale, hard water, use vinegar safer than chemicals

Honeywell HE260 leaks somewhere

Neither, even if the solenoid or humidistat stick, it should always drain properly. Is the unit mounted on the cold air return duct or the supply plenum? If it's mounted on the supply plenum, the water panel might be getting blown forward and spilling the water. High efficient furnaces also can leak water on the floor if its drain is restricted. If hum. is mounted on return duct make sure drain is clear by blowing through it. On Honeywell hum's I've seen the rubber hose from the solenoid valve to the distributor tray leak too, check the rubber 1/4" hose.

I have an aprilaire 760 that leaks water from bottom of case, I put new filter, cleaned all parts but I have the feeling that the fan is going in the wrong direction. Weird? Does anyone know what is wrong

Could use a little more info, but check this

These guys like to sit level and have all the parts in correctly. Double check that its is mounted level. When you change a filter on them the has to go in the exact way it came out and the plates with the tube have to line up just so. The filter has to also sit level so the water can trickle in the holes on top properly. That top bracket has to be sitting on the filter properly. Hope that helps
