SOURCE: bobbin thread bunching

I agree with brodering about the damage to your bobbin case, it should be smooth all over, as the thread travels across the top surface to form a stitch, and the small step on the underside locates it as the hook spins underneath.

Needle strikes often compromise the surface, as will the hook colliding with the under surface... and although it is possible to gently polish off the damage with fine grain wet & dry (black) sand paper (emery paper) there are limits to the success depending on the degree of damage.

While on the subject, ensure the bobbin case and hook race beneath are clean and free of lint or thread.

SOURCE: CLICK AND GRIND IN 270D BROTHER SEWNG MACHINE

This happened to me and I discovered that my presser foot was stuck up. (LOL) I was using embroidery and the needle was actually brushing against the raised presser foot. So, I turned machine off, removed embroidery part and checked the presser foot switch. It was not moving. Well, I put the machine on regular sewing and just turned the wheel a few times and the presser foot reset. When I went back to embroidery all was fine (and still is). so, check yours.

Why do stitches bunch when using walking foot on 3 layers of quilting fabric?

make sure that the thread tensions are correct for the thickness of material
remember that only the bottom foot walks and draws the material through so it may need a help and be pulled as it sews.
I find that women in sewing shops just love to talk about problems and how they can help so find a shop and discuss any problems with them

I cannot get the tension right on my 2600 Brother machine. I am stitching in the ditch with three layers of material. Can you please help?

Make sure you have the right size needle...not to small. Then do a simple seam through three layers (doesn't need to be a seam just sewing through 3 layers of scrap) using a wide zig zag stitch. Examine the stitch looking at both sides. Do they look even, identical?

Think in opposites, ie the bottom thread tension affects the stitch on the top side and the thread tension on top affects the stitch on the bottom side. If one side is loopy then the opposite side tension is too loose (or, sometimes that side's tension is too tight). Adjust until both sides are identical looking. Then try stitching in the ditch like you wanted to.

How do you lessen the pressure on the presser foot for sewing fleece?

On some machines there is a knob on the left the top or a recessed screw that is used for adjusting the pressure.

You may find you will get better results if you use a walking foot when sewing fleece or any other type of fabric where the layers tend to shift during the sewing process.

What tension setting should I use for6 layers of polar fleece on my brother PS 1800?

Depending on the thickness of fleece I would go back about 1-2 settings, being that your tension on bottom is already set correctly

Difficulty sewing quilt blocks

Try using a "walking foot" presser foot. It has feed dogs on the top to help all the layers go through evenly. A generic brand usually fits most all machines. :)

No problem :) I have been using this machine to make all sorts of things. The thick and thin layers issue is mainly in just having too much. I have been trying to design my own re-usable moon pads, and there are many layers to that, and depending on what fabric you are using (I have been using a combo of fleece, felt, waterproof layering and more fleece), but it handles it just fine as long as I adjust the settings to take on that thickness, and don't run the stitching at full speed. I have made some curtains, pillows, blankets, patchwork purses, etc......and I have been so happy with it. There is enough variety of stitches to keep preoccupied with for some time, and it comes with an overlock foot and stitch which is really nice, since I don't have a serger, but can still get that "serged look".
Not to mention that being a belly dancer, learning to sew and make my own costuming is just priceless. In my humble opinion, couldn't be happier with it and it's great for all around.
Have a great night!
