Doug, sometimes by sitting for periods of time the brake shoes will lock up. be sure the brakes are releasing. be sure the unlock rod that goes to the transmission hasn't broke or fell off.

Testimonial: "Jim it's not the break the rod on the back of the mower that is pulled that is used to disengage the pump seamed to be stuck so I sprayed it with penetrating oil at the pivot point and that loosened it a little so it is at least working. When pushing and pulling the rod at the back seems to be a lot of strain on the rod almost to the bending point , Thanks for the help ' Jim."

Mower starts fine but will not move?

  • Machine starts and runs, but the tractor will not go forward or backward.
  • Your machine has a hydromatic transmission with two pedals and not a manual transmission with individual speeds on a gear lever.
In the back of the machine there is a small wire lever. This lever can be pulled out. In the out position, the transmission fluid circulates without moving the machine. This allows you to push the machine around very easily. If the machine can be pushed by hand, without to much effort, this lever is in the out position. Push it all the way back in. The tractor will be much harder to move by hand.

The brake/clutch pedal also activates a fluid by-pass. So check that the rear lever is all the way in. Make sure it is still connected to the transmission linkage. Then make sure the brake lever is properly connected and fully released. Unless you have a problem inside the tranny, that should get you going.

Of course there is the question of drive belts and pulleys. Your belts and pulleys must be intact.

For a machine specific diagnoses we need
  • Make
  • Model
  • Year
  • Engine Model
  • Transmission Model
  • Deck Size
  • Hours on meter (indicates wear patterns and problems that only occur with time.)
  • If you haven't already done so, add a short description of the events preceding the beginning of the problem.

Mower starts and runs but won't move forward or reverse and brakes don't work.

If your transmission is automatic on the drive axle, look for a small lever inside the frame and below the seat. It can be hard to find the first time. This lever disengages the drive inside the auto gearbox so the mower can be pushed by hand. If the lever is not not moved, pushing the mower also tries to turn over the engine making it impossible to move. With the lever moved accidentally the drive is disengaged and the mower won't move in either direction. The lever operates a flexible cable that comes out from the auto transmission.

The mower will not move foward or backwards when in gear and teh brake is released. I did check to make sure that the brake isn't locked. It seems like teh transmission is not engaged. It worked fine in...

Is there a lever or pull device that disengages the drive so you can push the mower? If you can push the mower with the brake off, the trans is not properly engaged.

Is this helpful?

I have just bought a ride on Electrolux mower and can start it but it want go forward. What havent I done to make it go?

I presume this is a unit with the hydrostatic drive (automatic, just step on a pedal). There should be a rod or lever, usually on the back of the mower, that will release the hydrostatic and let you push the mower by hand. This basically bypasses the system, and the mower will not move if this lever/rod is pulled. If someone had to push this mower to load or move it, chances are it's not been pushed back into operating mode.

Instructions for turning on back screen wiper on Ford mondeo 1.8

2 ways this could work. 1 is by pushing the wiper switch towards the dash.

2nd is when you pull the lever towards you, it will turn the intermittant wipe on, pull it towards you again to cancel.
