SOURCE: loose agitator on Whirlpool Ultima Care II washer

it could have stripped the spline on the plastic agitator. there is a bolt at the middle of the agitator and you can access that thru the top . remove the top cover and you can remove the bolt using a deep socket.

once you remove the agitator you can look at the dog agitator. these a 4 pcs plastics that works like a one way wrench.

be careful on the location, they are very hard to put back.

check also the spline on the inner part of the plastic assembly.

they do get stripped.

if they are, replace the whole agitator.

NO BUT YOU MAY NEED WHATS CALLED ADJITATOR DOGS.TAKE THE TOP FABRIC DISPENSOR OFF AND REMOVE THE INNER CAP {IF THERE IS ONE} TO GET TO THE BOLT THAT HOLDS IT DOWN. REMOVE THIS AND PULL THE ADJITATOR OFF THE TRANSMITION AND OUT OF THE MACHINE. NOW YOU CAN SEPERATE THE TWO PIECES AND REPLACE THE DOGGS. GOOD LUCK!

Why does my clothes get stuck around the bottom of my agitator during washing?

the center of your Agitator has a cap or a pull off top inside you should have a Nut, Tighten the nut back down sounds like the plastic Agitator has lifted up and has to be tapped or tighten back down into the Tub.

Simpson Encore 605 agitator bolt comes loose - does it need loctite?

The wear is preventing it from tightening correctly, loctite won't be a long term fix, it will still come loose again due to the forces put on the bolt by the vibrations of the agitator. The only way to fix it is to replace the agitator.

The agitator on my washer seems to be slipping or stripped. How do I get into it to see if it's loose or needs to be replaced?

On some washers, you may be able to tilt it to look under it. There should be a main rubber belt that drives the agitator and other components, see if there is any slack or looseness in the belt. It should be pretty tight. If it is not, you may look for documentation on how to tighten it or else you might consider a replacement belt in some cases.

The agitator seems loose on my Maytag top loading machine.. model LAT9206BAE it started this after one of my kids overloaded the machine.. works fine but makes a loud clanging noise while washing.. almost...

Use a 1/4 inch nut driver to tighten the set screw to the agitator shaft. It is about 3 inches up from the bottom of the agitator on the side of the agitator.

Loose agitator Maytag LAT2600AAE

Look toward the bottom end of the agitator. There should be a small indentation where a 10mm screw is. This screw holds the agitator the the transmission shaft. Sometimes the screw works loose and needs to be tightened.
