SOURCE: Sony DSC-P93 battery replacement question
NiMH batteries. You can use the larger mAh AA. It has more capacity and should give you longer service before needing recharge. The battery manufacturers recommend that you do not mix the batteries. i.e. don't use mAh 2100 and mAh 2500 as one set, use all 2100 or all 2500 as one set.

Change to Ni-Mah rechargeables at the highest capacity you can find. If still in trouble it will suggest the internal battery has died - and a replacement is a repair job which will be pricey if feasible So just live without that feature.

SOURCE: AA Battery Drain...just discovered a 3V battery in my camera
Usually the 3v battery holds the date and time in your camera. A lot of time with digital cameras you have to remove the batteries when there not in use for a long period of time to prevent the draining from happening.
Do you have regular AA batteries to see if the meter changes? That would be the best way to see it the camera is reporting the correct battery life.
